Let's Go White Sox!

There's some complaints that they've got the dome open on Astros Field/Minute Maid Park. Apparently they usually play with it closed, but the league is making them keep it open. Apparently they feel that's unfair since during the regular season it's usually closed, and they're used to it that way.

Seems like a small thing to make a big deal out of, but then, home field advantage matters so it doesn't seem entirely fair to take part of that away from them. Baseball players are notoriously superstitious, too...

Is there anything more boring than baseball?

What's the reason for this ruling? It seems to me like the whole point of a dome is to close it.

Dean Esmay:
I don't understand the thinking. It's usually closed for baseball. It's the baseball commissioner's decision. I guess the calls just don't go Houston's way this year.

Then again if they lose, the dome being open is not going to be an excuse.

I once again note that both teams are playing very hard. It's 5-4 Chicago at the moment in the bottom of the 5th....

The Braves and Cardinals complained that the closed roof created an unfair advantage. Imagine a football crowd indoors.

MLB decided to intervene. And its an utterly ridiculous decision. Home field advantage, is, well, you know, home field advantage.

A usual, the Queen has it. Sliding a rock on ice, while speeding its way with a broom. Who but Canada could possibly have invented something as boring?

The roof stays open during the year. The Astros closed it for the playoffs to give their team a noise advantage. During the World Series, the league controls the venues, not the team. Which is why the dome is open.

It *shouldn't* matter either way, but if the Astros lose, someone somewhere will blame the league and the roof thing.

Its been a great game so far. So good, lets do extra innings.. I think the Astros got this one.

They'll win 2 of the next 3 to send it back to Chicago, where the Sox will win it at home.

Mr. Jerry,

The roof is actually closed the majority of the season. Save for the end of Spring, it tends to get pretty damn hot and humid down here. For the majority of the season. Summertime.

The roof is opened during the day to keep the grass alive. So much better than AstroTurf. And it is closed 1-2 hours before gametime so we can watch in our blessed air conditioned comfort.

Yeah, it's really nice weather wise here in Houston right now. Roof is closed 80-85% of the season. It should be our decision. Not MLB.

Taken to an extreme, they could mandate that the Twins cut a hole in the Metrodome. Or Detroit moves their fences in. Or Fenway cuts the wall height in half. Has that ever happened?

13 innings. Holy cow.

14 innings. Tied for longest game in World Series history.

These two teams are very closely matched. It's almost down to "who wants it more?"

Holy crap! 2 outs and a sudden home run!

Who's sweeping?

Okay, Astros dugout appears to be exhausted. You WALK a guy into home base? In a World Series game?
10.26.2005 3:05am
Steven Den Beste (mail) (www):
They didn't really walk a man home, did they? Holy cow!
10.26.2005 3:08am
Dean Esmay:
Yep.
10.26.2005 3:22am
Dean Esmay:
The real winning run was Geoff Blum's home run just before that. But they they actually walked four guys in a row. They were done.
10.26.2005 3:23am
Dean Esmay:
We might as well add: Geoff Blum is a former Astro, and furthermore, this was his very first time at bat in the World Series. He's gotta be feeling pretty good about now....
