There's no excuse for Mao, and there's no excuse for excusing Mao. He was as bad as Hitler.

I've gone back and read Kristoff's piece again. I still can't believe he would excuse such a monster. What a piece of shit Nick Kristoff is to write here in his nice, safe, office that Mao was 'kinda okay, I mean he had his bad points (what psychopathic dictator doesn't?) but he meant well for the peasantry.'

A whited sepulchure indeed. *spit*

You aren't a government,Kristoff, you don't have to excuse these monsters out of necessity. You chose to do so. *spit*

My excretia has more natural dignity than you, Kristoff.

I'll believe that there's no liberal institutional bias among the media and other social institutions when it becomes just as socially unacceptable to say "Stalin/Mao had his good points" as it would be to say the same thing about Hitler.

I sometimes think newsfolk say these things out of some hidden fear...as in its safe to criticize Hitler...He's dead and his movement is reviled. But Stalin and Mao still have countries under the sway of their brand of madness, and so one desires not to offend a potential customer and/or someone with a secret service capable of arranging an 'accident'.

But I kinda doubt their motives are as high as that.
