Well. That wasn't what I was expecting.

What were you expecting?

The space monkeys. Man. I so didn't see that coming.

Damn. ANOTHER spoiler!!

Now the space monkeys won't be a surprise! {sniff}

I hope you didn't tell them about the ~&#a..s_9823! ...~ +++ LOST CARRIER +++

I'm going to stand by my view all year: the problem with the human-looking cylons is that the mech-cylons can barely control them, and some models are even more unpredictable and uncontrollable than others. They're basically just cloned humans with some programming, only the programming can't really make them automotons or they don't work right.

Baltar started as a human and got copied. So did all the other human-models. :-)

I think the space monkeys were inevitable, but what got me was the President being killed by the rabid daggits. I never would've believed it.

So you think Baltar is a cylon? I'm not quite sure yet. You're definitely right about the unpredictable nature of the humanoid cylons, though. I wonder if the toasters are still in charge of things back in the empire, or if they've found themselves supersceded by their own creations?

Dean Esmay:
My theory about the humanoid cylons is that there are only a few models and some are much closer to humans than others. Actually, that's been stated pretty clearly a couple of times in the show by Six and a couple of others. They haven't said why, but it seems obvious: if these Cylons can't be detected as different from human by any normal medical tests, that means they're basically cloned humans who've had things done to their brains and maybe a few other "enhancements" that are non-obvious. And probably some are more "enhanced" than others. Point is, ultimately, the human-looking Cylons' biggest problem is that they ARE MOSTLY HUMAN. Thus they cannot be fully controlled.

The Six model--the real one, not the one Baltar imagines seeing--is closer to human than some of the others. The Sharon model is even closer, so much closer the other cylons treat her with contempt. My view is that Baltar is an experiment: they made him completely human but put a subroutine in his head that would attempt to bully, seduce, and cajole him into doing what they want--and even that isn't working so well.

It's been my theory since at least January.

Though I'm not entirely convinced about Baltar, it does make sense, Dean. I never liked the chip theory, as it's just too pat and too easy to prove/disprove.

I just watched the mini-series again, and they say in it twice that it's 12 models. How many have we seen now? 5? 2 make &2 female from the mini, and the new male in the 2nd season?

StevenR (mail):
That's "2 male &2 female". Sigh. Preview is your friend.

Dean Esmay:
They say there are 12 models, yes, and we haven't seen them all. But that doesn't prevent new models or experimental models either.

My suspicion is that Zarek's provocature friend (the one shot by Sharon, Mark II), was a Cylon as well, or perhaps even Zarek himself.

I just hope the clone idea doesn't get overused. It's a good one to keep a bit of mystery and paranoia, but it seems to me that it could be used once too often as a plot device / explanation / easy way out. Just my opinion, of course, and your mileage may vary.

Twelve copies could parallel the 12 colonies. Maybe they made a copy of the "best" of each colony.

Is more revealed in the podcasts? I've only caught up with them through episode 2, season 2.

Dean Esmay:
The podcasts give away little bits here and there, but mostly not big stuff. They've gotten more interesting recently, they include both Ron Moore AND David Eick together. Gives a somewhat different perspective.

Battlestar Galactica's Deep Secret

They're all Cylons. Everyone is a Cylon. But the database with all this crashed and the data was lost.

Jerry Kindall (www):
Well, I wouldn't say everyone is a Cylon.

But I would say that the humans did to their predecessors (the Lords of Kobol) what the Cylons seem to be doing to the humans, i.e. forcibly obsoleting them, and the Cylons are looking for a way to bring this cycle to an end by merging the best qualities of both species.

One thing I have noticed, is when the humans pray it is to the gods of kobol, (plural), and the cylons refer to god, and god's will....singular..
