Dean's World

Defending the liberal tradition in history, science, and philosophy.

Flash!

In a stunning move that rocked the blogging world, Jay Rosen re-opened comments on press bias... and the world was made safe for democracy again.

:-)

* Update * Neo-neocon has a thoughtful response on the subject of bias. I agree with everything she says about press distortions and what a healthy press would look like. I continue to feel that getting upset at a blogger for cutting off a firehose of commentary isn't particularly productive. Being suddenly swarmed with wave after wave of critical commentary is a weird experience and until it's happened to you it's hard to describe what that's like.

Dean,

Ann Coulter has posted a remarkably calm (by her standards) article that relates to press bias at Townhall today. She asserts that the MSM media is moving to the right, rather than the left.

I normally read Coulter only for the bellylaughs I get from her caustic zingers. But today, you might find her column well worth your time.

It's not a bad column by her standards, although it's a little incoherent in parts.

I'm always of two minds about Coulter only because I can see her tongue in her cheek at least some of the time, and she DOES get off good zingers. Honestly while I normally can't handle "left vs right" arguments--they literally make me insane--whenever I've seen her go up against Bob Beckel I've come away laughing at both of them. Somehow Beckel knows how to handle her in a way no one else does (and Beckel's pretty much a class act all the way around).

Ann Coulter has style and she's right some 90% of the time.
