Facist propagandist and hatemonger?!?! Emasculation?? Such terrible words this morning for a guy that deserves it so much. I met the wonderful Professor when he was speaking at the Power Center on U of M's campus. He's swimmingly arrogant, aloof, detached, and ultra strange. Guy can't even look at you when he talks. Eyes just jumps all over the place. If you've seen the movie The Abyss, Ol' Cole's eyes looks like the Navy Seal Coffy when he went nuts.

Maybe Juan Cole is suffering from a chronic case of the bends. He just needs to spend a few years in a pressurized isolation tank, and he'll be fine.

I just saw the Abyss - great movie, but it could have been a little shorter.

Well, if they had cut out about half of the artificial resuscitation scene, that would have trimmed the movie by about 30 minutes or so. (In know, I know: too hyperbolic even for me. But it just seemed like that scene was never gonna end!)

Well, Cole is now the most famous gelding since John Henry. Which makes sense, as one can see similarities between the two. One of them was infamous for being a foul-tempered creature prone to ineffectively running in circles and attacking those around him until someone cut his balls off--and the other one was a race horse. ]:-)

Juan Cole is not an expert. He had to be told Jenin happened after 9/11 and could not have been a cause for it, and then he tried to cover up his mistake. Now the grieving Mrs. Vincent tears his column to shreds, noting more factual errors.

It seems more and more apparent Cole's real job is not "Middle Eastern studies" but Arabist propaganda.
