Explosions in Birmingham

BBC is reporting bomb blasts in Birmingham, England.

Command Post has continuing updates.

* Update * Ah. Looks like it's unaffiliated with the London bombings, and it was a case of the police doing a controlled and planned explosion of some suspicious packages. Wise precation. Bobby knows what he's doing, eh?

Latest version of the story has no actual bomb blasts, just controlled explosions to destroy a suspicious object found on a bus.

Assistant Chief Constable of West Midlands Police, Stuart Hyde, said the measures were taken following information about a "substantial threat" to the area, but said the incident was probably not connected to the London bomb attacks.

"I don't believe that the incident that we are dealing with this evening is connected with the events

Scary, but maybe not too bad.
