The one thing I admire most about the post-Soviet Russians is that they are re-acquiring their ability to go into a place like Chechnya and squash them like so many bugs. Russia's enemies in this struggle are islamists. And therefore, they are our enemies as well. Stalin would have shipped the entire population of them to some shit-hole in Siberia, and knowing what we all know now after the massacre of all those Russian children in the school across the border from the Chechens, I would have approved.

If I had been one of the Ivans rolling into that city, and if that woman reporter had showed up in my gunsights from the enemy side of the line, I would have blown her head off.

If you want to be a civilian in a combat zone, then go hide in the basements under the shooting dies down. Then, if you are lucky and the fighting men are too tired, they won't bother to rape you and you might just get your story and get out alive.

Sounds brutal? War is no game. That's the only way to conduct it.
