American Idol Finale

I'm really sad to see Vonzell go. I really came to respect her talents. I think she had a bad night last night--her singing tonight was actually better than last night. Still, I wasn't surprised.

Time for Bo to win this thing.

You know, I find the whole Bo phenomenon just amazing. I never would have thought he would have made it. I'll bet he never did either: he's so damned different from what we've seen before. But that is part of his charm, too.

I think our friend Owen said it best: normally a guy like him would stretch his talents to fit the show. Instead, Bo chose to stretch the show to fit his talents.

I think he's going to win this thing but even if he doesn't it won't matter: gold and platinum records are in his near future.

Bummer about Vonzell... but no really. She's 19, sexy as hell, great personality, and she's already a huge star.
She'll have a long, great career, I bet. I think all 3 of them will make it in the biz.

Dean, I wonder how you be should Carrie pull off the win...

I could live with it. But she would have to put on her best show yet--and Bo would have to stumble--for that to even be possible.

So far, my predictions have been pretty accurate. Carrie is young, likeable, pretty, with a good voice, but Bo's got soul.

I could see where Bo's appeal is and all, but there's something about Carrie that I like so much. She's so... "heartland," and not to put too much of a cliche into it. She reminds me of the usual images (archetypes? stereotypes? caricatures?) of goody-goody rural girls and their sweet innocent charm.

Sort of like what Britney Spears would have been if she were a one-hit-wonder with "Sometimes" and never slipped into the wannabe sex-kitten phase. But then again Carrie can sing.

Carrie's problem is that she doesn't seem to fully know who she is as a performer. That's probably a function of age and experience as much as anything. But her style isn't consistent, and sometimes her face doesn't match her voice.

Bo's got 8 years on her, and lots of hard living and struggling to go with it, and the man knows exactly who he is.

I suppose that's what this is going to get down to: do people like young and innocent and earnestness better, or experience and soul.

To me it's hands-down.

Bo's is the only AI album that I may actually seek out and buy ...

He could use a touch more cruising volume and power to his voice, but it's fantastic.

One interesting fact from last nights show. Carrie went to a rally in her town with 10,000 fans. Bo went to a rally in his town with 8,000 fans. I know 2,000 ain't alot but a bigger home base goes a long way when it comes down to votes. The only way I see Bo winning is if his votes eclipsed that of Carrie &Vonzell this week. Thats something we will never know though. I think Carrie wins because of her youth and innocence. Both of them will do fine, no matter how they finish. If it comes down to who the title would help more, then that is Carrie.

For the past two weeks, I've tried to participate in the AI voting. Every time, without exception, I've gotten a busy signal through the course of about fifty tries.

I don't know if that's a good thing or not, and I also don't know if I would have had the same experience if I had been trying to vote for Vonzell or Carrie instead of Bo. But I wasn't about to try to find out and inadvertently give a vote to someone I didn't want to vote for.

Carrie looks like a deer in headlights any time she isn't singing a country song. Bo's comfortable on every genre they've thrown at him. Advantage: Bo.
