Dean's World

Defending the liberal tradition in history, science, and philosophy.

Bye, Anwar!

Well, Anwar got the boot. I'm a bit surprised. Mind you, he would have been my pick to go, but everyone seemed to have this liking for him--and I was always baffled at the claim that he was the "best singer technically." I never thought he was. Still and all, good luck to him in his future ventures.

The bottom three were right on the money so far as I'm concerned. The real competition is, and should be, between Bo, Constantine, Carrie, and Vonzell.

I'm still rooting for Bo.

Heh...I thought this was going to be a post about drilling for oil in Alaska...

Oh well.

No, the top four shouldn't include Constantine. But he has that whole evil "dark side of the force" thing going for him, so it will anyway.

I agree with the rest, and hope for a Bo / Carrie final, with Bo winning the whole thing.

Heh. Yeah. But hey, give the devil his due, and all that.

Heh! Same here, Jeremy. I kept looking for the punchline, and finally realized it was something to do with American Idol when I saw the "related posts" section. :P

For the first time, it seemed like the voters knew what they were doing. It wasn't perfect, mind you, but it was close. There were four potential stars and three duds. Scott, Anthony and Anwar all had to go at some point so it frankly didn't matter in which order they went. I hope it keeps going this way. We're headed to a spectacular final four, perhaps the best ever (this season is head and shoulders above last year!).

Wow, I also totally thought you were talking about oil drilling in Alaska. My heart sank for a second... my precious oil!

I have perfect pitch and I assure you, Anwar was indeed the technically best singer on the show. If you've been TiVoing or are familiar with those naughty BitTorrent sites, get the March 7th show and listen to his tour de force on "It's A Wonderful World". His problem was that other than that one time he consistently picked boring safe songs that barely stretch across 1 octave. Also, AI voting is driven overwhelmingly by young girls, so once it was widely known that he was gay it was all over.

I have this sinking feeling that creepy Constantine is inevitable, but I'm rooting for Bo and Vonzelle anyway.

"Technically best" includes more than pitch, but honestly, I to Tivo the show and more than once he sounded flat to me, and as you say, he usually picked rather unchallenging and uninteresting songs.
