Woman Not Force to Work in Brothel

Remember the story of the German woman who supposedly was forced to work in a brothel by the state? It was misreported, and was only hypothetical.

(Thanks to John Dibble for the heads-up.)

We did have a fairly interesting discussion of the hypothetical some time ago. (See below.)

It is amazing how easy it is to grab one 'news' story and label a government or a people based on that one tidbit. (Which so very often turns out to be false.)

I'm always amazed at how magnetic the poles are - people (myself included) are always drawn to move to the extremes, and it is only by a force of will that we can remain anywhere near the middle.

Balance is such a difficult thing to maintain.

I called bullshit on this story a long time ago. So did some commenters on Chicago Boyz, who identified the two articles that Clare Chapman's bogus story had obviously been cobbled together from (translations here and here). Most of the bloggers I alerted to the hoax were pretty good about updating their entries, with one notable exception.

I tend not to climb onto these 9 day wonder bandwagons. I'm more inclined to follow the W. C. Fields advice: “When you're angry and want to throw something, count 10. Then let fly! Your aim is better.”
