Sean Kinsell is tired of being labeled a conservative.

I mentioned this yesterday, but I'm going to mention it again because I'm so impressed: the Neo-Libertarians are singing our song, Sean. (Password tnlv1i1 to read it.)

People who want their stuff read do not put it in a PDF.

People don't put stuff in a passworded PDF at all if it isn't private.

Period.

I agree with Deb. It's not going to be read in this house as long as that's the format.

I thought that was a bit odd, too. I had to End Process out of IE yesterday because I forgot to copy the password and Adobe wouldn't let me cancel.

By the way, I see that "copy to clipboard" is disabled in the PDF file, too.

I believe it is in PDF format because it's a professional publication that they intend to charge for. They're giving out a free issue here.

Thanks for the link, Dean. Just to clarify, though: I don't mind being labeled if it's a clear label that fits. What irritates me is the implication that it's so obvious I'm a conservative that my failure to designate myself one means I'm embarrassed to admit it or am too stupid to recognize it. Then, of course, there are those who say you can't be a conservative if you [don't think pornography is evil, oppose bans on stem-cell research, are pro-choice]. Conservative, like liberal, also has its everyday meaning of "cautious in approach to social change" (though I think the economic definition came first) and its ideological meaning of "right-of-center." People often go sloppily back and forth between them, and you have to pick over what they say very carefully to figure out which they mean.

When how to label people becomes the topic, it bores me senseless, and since I'm not looking for a club to join, calling myself a libertarian is a way to say, "Go away unless you're interested in talking about principles or issues; if we do talk about principles or issues, don't expect me to humor your we-love-Sweden social-democratic crap."

Yeah, you're singing my song. I'm tired of being told it's obvious I'm a republican, a right-winger, a conservative, etcetera ad nauseum. I don't dislike those people and I share common cause with them on some things but not others. And "libertarian" would be a natural except so many libertarians are idiotarians in my view when it comes to the war effort.
