Great. Now I have the Prelude stuck in my head. (I'm hoping they do the opera suite from FFIII with a real opera singer...)

I can't believe I'm about to say this, but... I wish I lived in Detroit. (For this reason, and this reason only. And I would leave as soon as the concert was done.)

That's not any worse than the SF symphony playing with Metallica....

Hey, that was pretty much the only Metallica album I thought about buying. An orchestra supporting anything instantly makes it better! Like those beef ads. Who wouldn't tear into a steak while having that theme playing? I'll tell you - a souless heathen. That's who.

The composer is highly respected in Japan. Most of his music is high-quality stuff. I personally have always enjoyed the "Kefka" theme from Final Fantasy 3 (although it may just be a soft spot for Kefka as a villain).

Honestly I'm not surprised; the video game industry is bigger than the movie industry now, and composing soundtracks for them is a profession. The best games have exceptionally good soundtracks.

This is honestly no odder than an orchestra doing movie soundtrack selections, which has been common for decades. It's just interesting to see that video games have reached that level of acceptance.

I've just had a grudge against video game music since Mortal Kombat and my freshman year in college... Let's just say it was overload in the extreme.

Mortal Kombat! Man, that has a pretty cool techno score. Wait, are you talking about the first move (the only decent one of the two) or that first game album? Well, the movie techno music was pretty tight. The game album... well, all I can say is, "Johnny Cage ain't afraid to die!" (Yes, that album is a guilty pleasure of mine... don't judge me!)

Ooh, what would it cost to fly out to Detroit for a day?

I LOVE Nobuo Uematsu's music... He's my second-favorite living composer, after Yoko Kanno (who's written music for dozens of anime).

And you're right, Robert, the "Kefka" theme is awesome. But I must say that "One-Winged Angel" (Sephiroth's theme) and "Liberi Fatali" (the opening to FF8) are my two favorites. Any piece of music is about 100,000 times cooler if you add people chanting in Latin. :P
