Europe and Islam

Beautiful Atrocities has a terrific feature a lot of bloggers should consider: a series of links on the sidebar entitled "Outside Reading." This is an ever-rotating set of articles Jeff-in-Oakland has found provocative regarding politics, economics, and current events.

One that's listed at present discusses Holland's turbulent relationship with its Muslim immigrants. The issue is placed in the broader framework of how Europe might cope with its ever-growing Muslim population, a large number of whom subscribe to Islamist principles. It's thought-provoking and highly recommended.

It's a fine and common-sensical piece that deserves serious consideration.

There will be those who argue that Holland is experiencing a more extreme version of what we're experiencing here, although I'd say that's premature.

But one has to consider the population differences: we can absorb a lot of Muslim immigrants without becoming overwhelmed and "outnumbered." The countries in Europe are little, and they are being inundated.

Remember Steyn's contention that Europe's Muslims make anti-terrorist activities very different for them, since the problem is "internal" for them, vs. "external" for us.
