Our trashbins have bails which match the hydraulic lifts on the garbage truck. Broken glass is not a hazard to the DPW people.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume most normal residential homes don't have those big giant trash bins designed to be picked up by the hydraulics in the garbage truck.

Even if there's no broken glass, sanitation work can be dangerous. "A few years ago a sanitation worker was showered with hydrofluoric acid when an illegally disposed drum filled with the chemical exploded under the pressure of the packer blade. He died within minutes."

I can't think of a more terrible way to go than getting burned by acid. *shudder*
