New Intelligence Reform Bill

Dave Schuler is rather unimpressed with the new intelligence reform bill coming out of the Congress.

Me too.
If a piece of legislation passes by such a large majority it is either symbolic, watered down to the point of uselessness, or an act of war.

Hmmm. I'm not having any problems getting through to it. Must have been something transitory.

I heard the bill is over 3000 pages long - how many of those who voted for it actually bothered to read the damn thing?

Almost no legislator ever reads more than a tiny fraction of the bills he or she votes on anymore.

You would think this would disturb some people, but... [shrug]

I'm kind of thinking of writing a congressman(probably not my own, since he's a Democrat who didn't listen to me the last time I wrote to him) about proposing a bill to limit the number of pages legislation can be to about 50 or so. Enough pages to get substance needed for modern issues, but not too much to read. It's ridiculous when laws have more pages than novels and they are written in legaleez that requires a lawyer to translate it for you.
