Bizarre Secretary Statement

The outgoing Secretary of Health & Human Services, Tommy Thompson, last week at his retirement commented that he couldn't understand why terrorists had never targeted America's food supply because it would be so easy. In his defense, I kind of had the impression that maybe the folks in his department had put up some anti-terrorism efforts and had possibly tried to get more resources for that purpose. But it was still a pretty dumb thing to say.

But what you don't know is that he had even more to say that the press didn't report.

Maybe it's good that old Tommy retired.

Tommy T. is the HHS Sec. Good thing he didn't start spouting off on all the HHS/FDA counter terrorism programs/people put in place in the last three years... So now my boss' boss' boss' boss will get a new boss. Yippee.

Sec/Ag is a misquote, he is/was only sec of HHS.

As a TV commentator (I don't know who) said using a baseball metaphor:

You don't tell the opposing picture that you are a sucker for a low outside curveball.

He made some totally irresponsible statements.

Maybe because in WuzzaDem's article at the bottom, a trackback from Sgt Hook incorectly called him the Secretary of Agriculture. :o)

May have had something to do with him talking about food. My brain just immediately said "agriculture" but of course I know better. I was just not thinking.

I hesitate to speculate about potential IT targets to frineds, much less in the blogosphere, I cannot imagine doing it at a press conference.

As an aside, I remain totally and completely amazed at the level of information available on the Internet for a certain set of targets. I just checked again and sure enough still there for any terrorist to Google.

Catch 22:
If you think old Tommy was bad try Janet Reno...

Re: Elian

Or Jimmy Carter's accolades to Yasir Arafat, the gentleman from whom's terminal illness nobody on planet earth is permitted to be informed thereof.

Or really the pronouncements of a gentleman named Kofi Annan.

Personally I like Baghdad Bob and B-1 Bob.

Maybe -- just maybe -- Thompson knows something very specific about the great holes in our national security blanket as we face try to defend ourselves against worldwide terrorism.

Something so frightening to him that it caused him to blurt out the sum of all his fears for our future. I wouldn't make fun of any of this, or about his warning, if I were any of you.

Catch 22:
Imagine a person or a group is coming to your home territory ie.home to blow the place up and all its inhabitants or elsewise kill all the inhabitants.

Next imagine the home owner being well aware of the possible dangers thereto then announcing on CNN that one ought be careful about such the possible attackers and by the way some extreme destructive damage can be applied to our home territory (our home) simply by dropping some lethal toxins through the kitty door around the back of the house that leads to the master bedroom and as well another than leads in the kitchen area where we store our edible provisions. By the way, I now retire.

I think Tim got it right.
