"Everything Feels Like The Ocean To A Sponge"

Our friend Claire, who has some personal experience on the subject of domestic abuse, doesn't think much of the "Kerry voter as battered woman" motif.

On the other hand, Lulu over at 100 Monkeys Typing has some rather tart, four-letter-word thoughts on the Christian Exodus people. That's a group who's become so convinced that America is sinful and evil that they need to relocate all "true" Christians to South Carolina so they can try to establish a separate nation there and basically seceed.

To which I can only respond: yes, the nation certain does have its share of pathetic nitwits, doesn't it? Hey, you hate your own country that much just because you didn't get what you wanted out of the elections? Get the f*** out then.

Well, as far as the exodus people are concerned, I was taught that you should be “in the world, but not of the world.” Doesn’t sound like these people have the same idea. I really don’t understand it – unless you are forced to constantly do utterly reprehensible things, you shouldn’t separate yourself. Being tempted and encouraged to behave badly in an ever-increasing fashion (which I believe is happening) is certainly not the same as being forced to do so. The USA is not going to become a Nazi or Fascist state, despite what the loonier people (on both sides) think. It’s my opinion that this country would collapse upon itself and fail long before anyone would have to worry about being forced to constantly do grievously immoral things. And then the question would be whether it would be better to stay and try and change things. About the closest I can come to something like that now is possibly being forced to pay taxes that were used to directly fund abortions. That’s a realistic issue that concerns me – but not enough to make me want to leave the country.

Anyway, I recently came across this site and I like it – and the people seem to get along without an excessive amount of name-calling, etc. An obvious critique of Lulu (and the sites she links to) is the excessive amount of profanity that she feels she has to use to make her point. It doesn’t help her cause at all. I personally don’t have a problem with a little from time to time, but I believe internet posters are like comedians – the best stand-up comedians can make you laugh yourself silly without needing to use profanity or referring to sex. Virtually anyone can get a laugh by being vulgar. Similarly, the best internet posters don’t need to stoop to excessive profanity in order to make their thoughts known – I suppose a little for “shock” value is o.k. now and then, but too much and it just makes the poster appear like a teenager.

Btw, Dean, I’ve read some of your comments lately – and noticed some of the timestamps on your posts – are you a vampire? Do you ever sleep?
