Many of your readers may not realize it, but we have bald eagles in this part of the country. I used to work at an office near a nesting site and would see them swoop past our windows. There's nothing like pounding out code then looking up to catch a glimpse of the symbol of America flying just outside your window. It helped ease the pain of 9-11.

The latest news has a pair of nesting eagles being affected by the spill. I don't know to what extent, but they are fishing birds.

The good news is that the community is rallying to save the birds. The Delaware is a working river, and those of us who enjoy wildlife also enjoy watching the large container ships powering up the river. There's no reason why the two - commerce and conservation - can't exist side by side IF commerce demands better boats.
