Dean's World

Defending the liberal tradition in history, science, and philosophy.

Pundit Review Redux

I'll be appearing on Pundit Review radio this afternoon at slightly after noon Eastern. You can tune in and listen if you're in the Boston area on AM 1060. If you'd like to listen over the Internet, you can listen at right here.

Feel free to call in and razz me if you want. 877.711.1060. Just remember I'm not on until about 10 after noon Eastern. :-)

Damn. I didn't get to razz you. I had some good questions, too.

Sorry man. You can ask me now though. :-)

An "interesting" interview to say the least.

First off, you definitely speak well and come off as a thoughtful analyst in interviews. Well done on that score.

I listened, and I just heard you say that you're not a conservative, nor a Libertarian, etc. but that you are, in fact, a liberal. Since you've previously felt entitled to incorrectly call me a liberal (I'm a moderate, and have traditionally leaned toward old school fiscal and social conservative values) I have to call BS. Reading here regularly, you don't just endorse the Iraq war, which is your right. You seem to embrace the full range of Bush domestic and international programs. If you believe in those things, that's fine, and we'll all respect your opinions. However how exactly do you call yourself a liberal? These are theocon agendas.

The radio show is hosted by somebody who apparently is hoping to be Rush Limbaugh when he grows up. Wow, Dean. That interviewer was really objective, getting to the bottom of the story, huh? I missed his first question, by the way. Was it something along the lines of, "Let's be objective and get to the bottom of this, Dean. Which of the reasons that Kerry sucks and is a gay commie sodomite is the biggest one not to vote for him?"

More quotes from the host...

"Reenlistment will drastically decline if Kerry is elected."

(From Dean)"I'd be afraid to enlist if Kerry wins."

"Kerry will just suck the life out of the country. We'll be waiting in bread lines."

... if Kerry wins "we'll be getting attacked by terrorists for the next two decades." (It was going by fast, may have missed a couple words on that one.)

Holy Hannah! That show makes Fox (or Faux) News look almost objective. Fox might not be as bad as I thought.

Another observation: This is an election about Bush and Kerry and the future of the country. Dean, you can't seem to go more than five sentences without mentioning the Swifties or Michael Moore. I don't think it's just me, Dean. You sound like this has pushed you into some serious obsessive compulsive tendencies.

Addendum: I kept listening to the follow-up interview after yours while typing this, and it probably wasn't entirely your fault about the Moore, Swifties comments. The host seems to be even more obsessed with those items. The rather telling thing was, I heard almost zero mention of any current issues of the day that impact this election. Just Kerry bashing, Moore hatred, Swifties love, and being stuck in the past. Oh, and the host of Junkyard Blog (interviewed after you) makes you sound positively rational and unbiased, so all in all, you probably did pretty well.

Oh, and the phone number posted was, I think, wrong, wasn't it? The host said the first three digits were 866 in case you go on again. I tried calling, but didn't get through. (Just in the interest of getting the number right and letting people get through.)

I am a classical liberal and a Bush supporter. This has always been the case and it is nothing I have ever hidden.

I was asked to come on the show to discuss three things: The Swift Boat Vets for Truth, Michael Moore, and the upcoming election. What else did you expect me to talk about? Any real liberal should be ashamed of Michael Moore, and should be disturbed at the way the Kerry people have treated the Swift Vets.

The phone # is correct so far as I know.

Yep, as far as I can tell, the host was focusing on that, so I can see why you were discussing it. It went on quite a bit after you left.

The phone number with 877 also seems to work, so they probably just have two numbers (if not more) that work. People may want to try both if they have trouble getting through in the future.

Hopefully they will post a replay of it on their web site as they did with your Oct. 2 appearance. I put links to this spot, the WBIX site where the internet streaming feed is, and the Pundit Review site on my blog figuring that people are better off making up their own minds. Like I said, though, even though we may not agree, you came off pretty well and made your points clearly. Well done.

Well those guys are obviously a lot more conservative than I am, which is fine since they're open about it, but I hope the part where I encouraged conservatives to try to give a new President Kerry a chance made a difference. Although I really hope they won't have to.

Still I will stand by one thing: any young pepole who watch Fahrenheit 9/11 and allow that to swing their vote really, seriously need to see FahrenHYPE 9/11 so they can learn just how much they've been duped by Moore's dishonesty, and just how much of it is truly anti-American, pro-terrorist matierial.

I realize this is hyperbole, but come on - there's quite a difference between being a conservative radio host who thinks a Kerry presidency will spell doom for the US and a being a fundie nutjob who accuses everyone on the left of being a sodomite.

And really, 'Faux News'? Watched any CBS lately?

Another observation: This is an election about Bush and Kerry and the future of the country. Dean, you can't seem to go more than five sentences without mentioning the Swifties or Michael Moore.

Swifties - ample proof that Kerry is a... how to put it... an unscrupulous political whore, or at least was one a few decades ago?

Moore - the embodiment of everything that's wrong with the anti-Bush crowd.

As Kerry is the 'I am not Bush' candidate, I think the Swifties and Michael Moore are very relevant - God knows Kerry isn't running on issues (well, he seems to be running on all of them, with every possible stance on each), so he's running on character.

'The President has lied to the American people' being his primary argument, 250+ of his fellow vets testifying to him being the liar isn't a moot point.

'The President has lied to the American people' being his primary argument, using the rhetoric of a latter-day Leni Riefenstahl and embracing him at the DNC - not a moot point.

Sigh. Three days, is it now?

Too bad Dr. Suess wasn't around. He made a documentary in 1947 that won the Academy Award, and I wrote a bit about it in your post today on , The Truth about Fah...9/11

Michael Moore (Lord Pork Pork) tells lies about President Bush and America in order to aid our enemies. Our noble veterans tell the truth about Kerry who told lies about them in 1971 in order to aid our enemies and/or further his political career. Therefore, I'm glad I voted for Bush and not for Kerry.
