Backpedaling Begins

The New York Times begins backpedaling, and the Kerry campaign has already begun to try to change the subject.

Meanwhile, the New York Times is also talking about how big mean bloggers are scaring poor innocent reporters.

Yeah, a "chill wind blows" when you report something false and you get caught at it.

The mainstream media will eventually learn that webloggers are a great free resource that they can put to good use. Until they figure that out, though, they're just going to keep showing their butt cracks like this.

(My that Powerline really is a good blog, isn't it?)

This looks pretty definitive to me:

And then there is this:

Those pictures are ridiculous. I had no idea that IAEA seals were such small things that only went around a bit of a wooden door. That's only marginally more serious than a piece of tape saying "warranty void if this seal is broken".

Besides which, the inspectors themselves admitted that there were vents that weapons could be smuggled out of, making the seals pointless in any event.

At this point the news media's credibility is completely shot. What they did with this story and how they handled it is beyond the pale. It remains utterly unclear how much of what was there before we got there, and the fact that the story was timed by CBS and NYT clearly both withheld crucial information AND timed the release in order to cause maximum political damage is a travesty.

They cannot be trusted. They will lie by withholding information, and they will do it in order to swing an election toward their preferred candidate. Nothing has proven this better than what we've seen this last year.
