Dean's World

Defending the liberal tradition in history, science, and philosophy.

Go On, Senator. Answer This One.

I would like to see Senator Kerry, rather than shrieking that it's all Bush's fault, simply answer this ad's allegations.

Predictions: Kerry will continue to try to make this about who gave the Swift Boat Vets money rather than about what they're saying.

If someone is telling the truth, neither their motivation nor their financing can render what they're saying less true. I don't personally CARE if the group has ties to Bush. If what they're saying about Kerry is true, it's relevant. Period.

Of course they will continue to attack the people making the assertions, and rage about where they got their funding.

What else are they do to when they do not have good answers for the Swift Boat Vets' allegations?

It is so evident in the way Chris Matthews freaked out with his two interviews - one with one of the Swifties and with Michelle Malkin(sp).

NBC Nightly News focused on the NYT article tonight emphasizing the Rove connection.

These people are so in the tank for Kerry it's not funny.

The way Matthews attacked Michelle was unforgivable ... but in a way, it was good because it showed him up for what he really is. Nice going blondie.

You don't understand.

Bush is a Republican.

The fellow who funded the ad is a Republican.

Could anything be a clearer indication of criminal intent? Sheesh, these guys are obviously guilty as hell...

If all Kerry has got is an attack on the Swifties for being financed by Republicans, it demonstrates to me that Kerry has no way to kill the effect of the Swiftie ads. Watch the polls change in the next week or so. Bush will get mileage out of this fiasco because Kerry can't seem to make it go away.

So far this week we've got Rasmussen (who spent three whole days in Kerry's company in Viet Nam)stickin' up for Kerry against the 200 plus Swifties who knew Kerry as a brother officer for 4 months. Kerry needs to refute the Swifties, not cry foul because his political enemies put up some dough (legally) to finance the Swiftie ads.

Do they really deserve an answer, if it was funded illegally? This seems similar to me as the old prospect for not reading anonymous web pages/logs: If you aren't going to stand by your own work, why should I believe it?

They are not funded illegally. They are funded in the same way as Media Matters (George Soros's millions) and MoveON, and ACT. The only thing they have to bitch about is that the SwiftVets seem to be getting lots of traction and it's against Kerry, rather than against Bush.

It seems odd to me that they feel they can object to this on the grounds that this is funded by Republicans when they've had ad campaigns as well that were funded by leftoid organizations funded by Democrats. Freedom of speech for me but not for thee!

The other defense they are offering, for this second ad, is that Kerry's sworn testimony before the Senate is being quoted out of context. Aside from the stew pot - sauce pan issue, what concievable context makes those ugly lies acceptable?

Well, slap me stupid! An ad attacking the Democratic candidate is funded by Republicans! I never would have guessed! (rolls eyes)

*sarcasm on* My, Senator, you have a marvelous grasp of the obvious. *sarcasm off*
