Paul Volcker?

I noticed that Paul Volcker has an interesting piece on the U.N. Oil for Food scandal and the inquiry committee that he's part of which is investigating it.

It's an interesting piece, but I must admit that the main thing that surprised me was that it was written by Paul Volcker. I had no idea that guy was still around. For those of you who don't know, he was chairman of the Federal Reserve during most of the 1980s. Some would suggest he was a much better guy than Greenspan. He was a Jimmy Carter appointee as it happens.

Appointing Volcker was one of the things I always note that Carter did right. It set the stage for killing inflation.

Yeah. It might have cost him the election, too.

Alan Greenspan is an interesting fellow. He used to be in Ayn Rand's inner circle, wrote some of the essays in "Capitalism: the Unknown Ideal" (on the gold standard, consumer protection laws, and antitrust laws).

Commenting on Dean's World is a privilege, not a right. Dean is your host, you are his guest, and you should behave in that fashion. Dean is not your babysitter, nor is he your punching bag. Please remember this. In general, you are free to disagree with anyone on any subject you wish, but abusive behavior will not be tolerated.

Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.

Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
