Okay, so Bill Cosby can see the real root of problem for black kids growing up in the cities of modern America. Attitudes for attidudes; kids giggling over their ignorance, who can neither read nor write effectively. Sitting their with their asses half buried in holes they can never and will never climb out of.

He's not the first Afro influential in this country who has seen the problem. He won't be the last.

But what in hell has changed, despite all that?

White man or no, I've always had a feeling for blacks. Goes back to the time one or two of them treated me nice during some hard luck spots I went through as a kid. But I mean here that I like them, not the self-destructive culture that keeps them down, keeps too many of them in prisons, and all the rest of their experience.

But like them or not, I can't live their lives, because I'm not one of them. So I'm interested in anything I read or hear about Afro folks who have figured out how to give themselves a self-boost.

This is a classic case of standard problem-solving methodology. Step 1: Identify the problem. In this case, the source of the problem - a destructive culture - is known by some but not acknowledged by many who are a part of the culture.

Cosby's remarks are important, because he is well-known, respected by many, and has a good chance of being listened to by the members of the particular culture he is addressing, which means that people can move on from step 1 and actually work on breaking the problem down into manageable pieces to solve. (For example, a manageable piece might be working on schoolwork with your kids.)
