Dog Stops Massacre

A man intent on starting a killing rampage, with explosives and thousands of rounds of ammunition, changed his mind at the last minute because he encountered a friendly pooch and decided people who raised such nice dogs didn't deserve to die. So he turned himself in and confessed instead.

Shh, don't tell Michael Moore and his troglodyte fans, but this was in Toronto.

(Thanks, Kyle.)

Does this change your opinion of dogs, Dean?:)

I live here, and as you can understand it's the talk of the town. Pace Michael Moore, quite a lot of people are now locking their doors (against potential crazies, NOT Michael Moore. Pity.)

The news coverage is worth watching, if only for the interview with the shaken dog-owner ("I didn't really pay attention to the guy, only to see if Dante [the dog] was behaving himself"), as well as the bemused rection of the young constable to whom the crazy surrendered (understatement of the week: "Well, I'm certainly glad he met that dog when he did"). Toronto's Finest, calm and unflappable as ever:)

When can we deploy the 1st Airborne Puppy Division in Iraq?

Big Dan, your comment reminded me of an old news article, in which an Iraqi saw an American patrol searching house-to-house, when they came upon a barking dog. Instead of summarily shooting it (what the Iraqi onlookers expected them to do), they fed it, befriended it, then went in. That had a profoundly positive impact on the Iraqi witnesses, who felt the Americans treated dogs better than Saddam's henchmen treated them.

Now, I don't know why they had a dog- my guess is they don't follow their religion to the letter any more than the rest of us do.. But puppy brigades are pretty hard to resist!
