A Man Of The Left With Integrity
It's nice to see that at least some people on the left are showing some intellectual integrity.
Michael Moore has become the Left's very own Leni Riefenstahl. Pass it on.

Dean's World Defending the liberal tradition in history, science, and philosophy. |
Don't you believe it, Dean. Michael Moore represents the views of more leftists than anyone else. Anyone who attacks Moore reveals herself as a right whinger. Michael Moore is the hero of the left, and no mistake.
If Pedro is right, then one's opinion of Moore serves as a Litmus test. Reminds me of the 1950s when questioning McCarthy got one labeled as a communist.
Amazing how politics have flipped and the true liberals are now on the Right, fascists on the Left.
Heard that.
Strictly speaking, Michael Moore is the left's second Leni Riefenstahl.
Remember, that NAZI stood for "National Socialist Workers Party". Despite 59+ years of propaganda calling NAZIs "Right Wing", they were orthodox socialists in most areas and are properly considered "Left Wing."
P.S & Offtopic, first time I heard the term "politically correct" I thought they were talking about the NAZIs. I have not as of yet seen reason to change my mind...
"Michael Moore has become the Left's very own Leni Riefenstahl."
You forgot...but without the talent.
N. O'Brain
Imperial Minister for Useless Information
I'm not sure that's an accurate comparison. From what I've read, Riefenstahl was fairly apolitical. She was, apparently, more interested in the artistic effect of her work than anything else.
It was, alas, the brilliance of her work that helped to enhance the image of the NSDAP. I shall, therefore, agree with the Imperial Minister's point that Moore has no artistic talent.
Damn. I forgot to add:
In the article to which Dean links, Armond White refers to a film by Neil Young called Greendale. Is this a 9/11-related film, and does anyone know anything about it?
Its a brilliantly written piece, but the author fails to draw his own conclusions - Moore is doing what he's doing, and getting accolades for doing it, because he is what the left has degenerated into. They call themselves "progressives" these days, a perfectly meaningless word, and it encapsulates them perfectly - they are quite meaningless; a void. Get past the slogans and thats it, there's nothing more.
Its what you get when you run across the amazingly self-absorbed who are also feel guilty due to a residual effect of the Christian religion on their psychological make-up. What Moore has produced must be true, because if its not true then a whole host of automatic assumptions which allow leftists to go on being their selfish little selves get destroyed - they might have to start thinking, and this is too much to handle...easier to just make up some bullshit.
I agree with Mark Noonan that the Left is philosophically bankrupt. I hate that word "progressive". I agree that it is indeed a vacuuous, meaningless term, a void, going nowhere. I don't believe in "progress". I believe in eternal struggle to gain and to keep values.
There is one man of the Left whose integrity I do respect: Christopher Hitchens. Also Nat Hentoff, a long-time defender of the First Amendment. And Tammy Bruce. And, above all, Camille Pagia. But -- the Left has exiled every one of these rebels for their Political Incorrectness. E.g., Nat Hentoff also defends the unborn -- heresy! So, I guess these individualists are on the Right now, at least according to the Marcusean Left. Hmmm.... The Right? "Throne and Altar"? Hmmm....
