Back in 1975, I worked in a woodshop making pallets. There was a buzzsaw. A guy I liked said of a guy we didn't like that he would like to take the guy we didn't like and put him on that buzzsaw and saw him in half -- then, he'd be "beside himself"!
Another friend remarked that "that's a two-sided joke".
