Woman Tells Justice Department To Pound Sand

A woman licensed to grow medical marijuana in San Jose, legally according to California law, got an injunction in Federal court to stop harassment efforts by the Justice Department.

A victory for states' rights and for common sense and decency.

I'm doing a little happy dance in honor of her!

Good!

Fighting to rid the world of medical marijuana or people who like porn has always been at the top of Mr. Ashcroft's agenda. Fighting terrorism barely makes the top ten.

Tell me again why you want to hire this guy and his bosses for another four years.

EXCELLENT!!!

Ashcroft was also thwarted in his efforts to beat down the State of Oregon's doctor assisted suicide law.

Don: I could do without Ashcroft. Doesn't mean Bush is an idiot.

On the other hand, at least Ashcroft doesn't murder innocent American citizens the way Janet "Waco" Reno did, so maybe he isn't that bad after all...

Casey, only the most far-right wingnuts believe that Janet Reno killed innocent Americans in Waco---the Branch Davidians had a huge stockpile of weapons and set off that fire themselves. She accepted responsiblity for the consequences, which is different (and something the Bush Administration is unwilling to try).

Don't you think that giving Ashcroft the job of AG and backing him up 100% reflects on Bush at all? Or has he escaped responsibility for this as well?

I'm one of those far-right wingnuts.

Me too.

Don, only the most far-left winguts believe that only the most far-right wingnuts believe that Janet Reno killed innocent Americans at Waco.

(Gee, this name-calling stuff is fun!)

As for Ashcroft: tallying up the score, if I have his name in the "liability" column, and Cheney, Runsfeld, Rice, and Wolfowitz in the "asset" column, I call it a net win. (I'm still not sure which column to list Powell in...)

Kevin: Are you a major stockholder in a military contracting firm? If you are, the Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, and Wolfowitz are definately assets for you. They have been tireless in their efforts to channel billions of dollars from my pockets to yours.

If you're more interested in winning the war on terror or keeping American citizens safe, then they're Huuuuuuuge liabilities.

"If you're more interested in winning the war on terror or keeping American citizens safe, then they're Huuuuuuuge liabilities."

And your support for this claim is...?

The most amusing thing is that some far left partisans will in the same breath say we're trying to win the war "on the cheap" and then complain about how much money we're spending.

As for Ashcroft: Enforcing Federal law whether you agree with it or not is part and parcel with being the Attorney General. I happen to think Federal anti-marijuana or anti-assisted suicide laws are wrong, and an abrogation of states' rights. I would expect the U.S. Attorney General to not necessarily share my view. The courts would have to be the final arbiter in this case because no other arbiter exists.

So I'm not particularly mad at Ashcroft for doing his job, no.
