The Dead

Does anyone know where I can get any good online boots of The Dead?

I don't mean the old group, I mean the current lineup. I am very impressed with what little I've heard but I'm looking for more.

Whoops, wasn't paying attention. It seems the new lineup isn't as big on tape trading as the old one, your best bet would probably be a torrent, I've seen a few seeds recently.

Al - According to this , the new Dead's policy on tape trading hasn't changed from that of the original band's. And I will ask around for a site for bootlegs, Dean.

F***** hyperlinks! Click on your link, then click on "policy notes". If it matters anymore.

Check with David at http://blog.largeheartedboy.com. He seems to have a ton of resources when it comes to finding online music.

Yeah I've been to dead.net and seen that they did still have taper's sections at the shows and stuff, and I've listened to a Live365 station that sometimes has boots of the new band on--and like I said, they sound phenomenal, really better than anything the band sounded like during the last years of Jerry's life (I was at his last show and it sucked).

I just can't find any online sources of any of their tapes and I'd really like to.

Skillzy--thanks, I'll try.

Dean _ The Dead had a lot of shows that sucked. IMHO, I do not believe that their last show sucking was necessarily the fault of Jerry Garcia. Like any band, they had their off-days. But I still think that the worst Dead show I ever saw (Day on the Green - Oakland Coliseum, opening for the Who) was better than the best of many other artists' shows I've seen. From a purely historical standpoint, consider yourself fortunate to have seen Jerrry's last performance. We belong to the same "club" in that my wife and I saw John Lee Hooker's last show. However, unlike your unfortunate experience, it was a phenomonal experience.

Naw, Jerry was off key and off beat and just a mess. Let's just face it, he had a few good shows in him but he was mostly holding the band back by the end. I loved the guy but let's be honest, he destroyed himself.

Part of the reason I also like The Dead (the new band, not The Grateful Dead) is because I both like and respect both of their current guitar players. Jimmy Herring is phenomenal and very much in the spirit of the Dead. I met him in a club in Chicago, one hell of a nice guy. And their other guitarist at the moment is Warren Haynes!!!

Well, three guitarists. Bobby's still there doing rhythm of course.

Okay, okay, and I have to admit that despite hundreds of opportunities (as I live in the Dead's backyard) I have yet to go see the Dead (the new version). Call it whatever you want, I can't seem to get behind a band called the Dead w/o Jerry. Mind, I have always supported the individual bandmembers' own solo efforts (many of which weren't exactly solo as they included almost all of the G.D.'s lineup. Maybe I should throw off the chains of nostalgia and go see them already. New frontiers and all that. Still, as immersed as I was in the mystique of the Dead while living in Marin County, it's always hard to think of the band without Jerry's unique sound. As they say, they weren't the best at what they did, they were the only ones who did what they did.

Dean -

Glad I could be of service in an area of need! I suggest www.etree.org. An online community of "jam-band" music collectors and traders. If it's available, likely someone on etree has it.

Mark already provided the dead.net link, but that's a tough site to navigate. I wouldn't doubt that you could find info on who has the shows from this and last year, but it might take some doing. Good luck.

Yeah, dead.net doesn't have anything, that's why I asked. I'll definitely check out etree!
