Attention Dean's World Denizens
Raging cases of jock itch are very uncomfortable and can even be agonizing. You should endeavor to avoid this condition.
This has been a public service announcement. You may return to your normal lives.
Sorry to hear that! ;-P
BTW, I clicked "forget personal information" several times, but I still remember this post!
One word: Lamisil.
It's expensive, but it'll take care of the problem in a week.
From Tinactin's Website:
How do I get rid of it?
* Wash and dry the infected area
* Apply a thin layer of Tinactin® Jock Itch Cream twice a day (morning and night) or as directed by your doctor
* If infection covers a large area, try Tinactin® Jock Itch Powder Spray
* Continue treatment for two weeks, even if symptoms disappear, to ensure a complete cure
* If condition persists, consult your doctor
And if you want it to feel better, diaper rash creme...Desenex if you can find it.
LALALALALA I can't hear you!
Oh, wait. That doesn't work with print.
Dammit.
Well, nothing like a little TMI to start off the day.
I promise the next time I have a raging yeast infection - Dean will post that too![shudder]
Providing helpful medical tips is just one of the many valuable services offered free of charge to all Dean's World readers.
White cotton underwear during the treatment period--it breaths better and light can get to the area. If you can, sunlight but not with the medication on. (Careful of peeking neighbors.) Make sure the area is dried completely after bathing or showering. Wash your hands after contact with the area and after bathroom activities. Don't wear tight pants that can restrict blood flow or rub the area (comfort issue).
If the discomfort is unbearable, you can soak in a bath tub with a cup of baking soda or a cup of oatmeal. It's soothing and cooling. The baking soda is less messy. The water shouldn't be too hot as heat is irritating. Some people say no whirlpools or jacuzzi's because of the chemicals and heat--breeds germs and irritates the problem.
If pain persists, an ice pack can help. Rosemary's frozen peas will do the trick. :)
If the medications above do not work, go to your local supermarket, by a box of corn starch and put it in the fridge. Once its cool just apply liberal amount of the cool powder on the affected area.
Aint no Tinactin in Cuba, know what Im saying?
Oh my goodness, what a group of nice friends you have here Dean.
You get some kidding around and get some good advice. Lot's of funny remarks came to my mind but then I asked myself, "Have you ever had jock itch?" Well, no I have not, but I did have a crush on a Jock in High School. That kinda made me "itch" wanting to go out with him.
Uumh...wonder where he is today. Seems like everytime you post something kinda personal I end up pondering on it for awhile. Why do you have that effect on me Dean?
Women can get this too. It's basically a fungal infection brought on by too much moisture in the crotch area. I got rid of mine with Lamisil cream after washing with Cetaphil. Then you stand in front of a fan to dry off the relevant area before putting on cotton undies. Some medicated cornstarch or talc can help control moisture throughout the day. After the infection clears up, just keeping dry there will prevent a recurrence.
Ok, TMI, but it does help. :)
Have I got a movie for you...
Body Care and Grooming 1948
Exhaustive (and sexist) explanation of personal care and daily habits of cleanliness, demonstrating how to keep the skin, hair, nails, and teeth clean and healthy. Partially filmed at Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y.

Wouldn't that make this a pubic service anouncment?
OverSharing!
You know, the Mystery Science Theater 3000 crew did their treatment of the "Body Care and Grooming" short film, and it was hysterical. Told you an awful lot about cleansing, skin eruptions, and how best to moisturize - or at least how to do these things if you were pasty white 1940's college students. Way TMI.
Somehow, though, it didn't have the emotional impact of hearing about Dean's discomfort. :-)
This is a really scary thread, but Anne's comment reminded me of something that may be helpful to any of you with babies.
Air is the single best thing for preventing and healing diaper rash. My boys are grown now, but they almost never had it. I always left off their diaper for a minute or so when changing if their skin looked irritated - if they actually got a rash I'd try to keep the diaper off for a while.
Or you can try the fan trick, or what I did - just blow gently on the area to dry before putting the diaper back on.
And now I am leaving before the inevitable jokes start up... don't even go there.
And yes, they're quite well-adjusted adults... I think. I'm outta here.
Evilly effective, totally un-PC way of getting rid of jock itch (which, as an overweight male in Tucson, AZ for almost 10 years, I know a thing or 12 about):
Heavily clorinated water, pools are ok, but jacuzi/hot-tub/spa is better. Kills it dead.
Discovered this accidentally when in the spa at a friends house when I had the-jock-itch-that-would-not-die.
Has worked every time since, note that that's ALWAYS with cotton undies: IS there any other kind? :-)
