Kill Bill Volume 2

We just saw Kill Bill Volume 2.

The other day, Chris told me he hated it. I honestly don't get why. I thought it was fabulous. I can't wait to buy it on DVD along with Volume 1.

What a great movie. Hell, it's like both movies together are just one movie.

I won't even try to review it. I'll just say I loved it.

Yow, I had not intended to see it as my flesh-friends were not enthused but in light of these comments I will probably ultimately buy both for a song on ebay or at overstock.com. What interested me though is that Dean will buy it although having seen it. I have been consuming plenty of DVD's lately and I almost always buy 'em. I tired of paying late fees for rentals but moreover found I REALLY don't want to be pressed to engage in a bit of entertainment. As far as the expense goes, it seems initially a little extravagent but I've sold plenty back on ebay and mitigated that. Too many lines of to little interest perhaps but I just wonder what other folks habits are like, how are they changing and who pays what for what because I don't think I've heard any of the many commentators on these matters put forward a plausible model.

mega, check out netflix.com, we love it here at our house: 3 movies checked out via mail at a time, $20/month, 1-2 day turn around.

Oh, and Dean, you're righter than you may know when you say "Hell, it's like both movies together are just one movie". Tarantino himself called it one movie that had to be chopped in half from run length issues (he thought he could do it in one, but couldn't). So yeah, Kill Bill II is much more the second half, rather than a stand alone sequel.

Dittos on Netflix. Excellent. I live over the hill (the Sierra Nevada) from their San Jose depot. Transit time is typically 2-3 days (sometimes in winter snow closes I-80 around Donner Pass). Netflix is especially good for the classics that don't show up often on cable. DVD only, though.

Here's the deal. The first hour: great! Lots of awesome backstory and good suspense scenes and of course amazing music. But then it just falls apart into stupid (really really stupid) dialogue, that has little or nothing to do with any of the 3 hours (if you include the first volume) we've already seen. There are new plot twists that are just suddenly brought up and discarded within seconds and it just makes no sense.

In short: I loved how he made the first 3 hours to be "corny", and yes, I noticed all the homages to old films; but I think he just takes it way too far in the last hour. Totally disappointed me.

I love both the soundtracks though.

Oh, and by the way, in Uma's opening monologue in Volume 2, she says "there's only one person left" or whatever. Uhh, there are three people left, who were all at the church massacre. What's up with that? It took him two years to write this garbage?

Or is the opening monologue supposed to be a flash-foward to the near-end of the movie?

I should also mention that I saw Volume 1 on video at home, and Volume 2 at the theater. Now, there are many movies that I've hated at the theater and loved at home, so I guess we'll see what I think when I see volume 2 at home.

FYI- 6 total versions of Vols 1&2 are going to be released.

dowingba- I got the impression from her monologue that there was a temporal shift, that she was speaking after Elle and Bud.

dowingba, what Lachlan said is correct. In fact it's bleedingly obvious when we see her later driving the same car, same film stock and color shift.

I don't know about anyone else but when that part happened I just assumed it was a 'out of time' sequence. Especially since we had two more people to do in on screen.

Anyone else wonder how exactly Darl Hanna's managed to stay so good looking over the years?
