Is Kerry A Liar or His Wife's Bitch? (Rosemary, the QOAE)

This will be my last opinion post on Dean's World. I am currently working on my new site with the help of my sister and hubby. We hope to be open on Monday. I decided to go out with a bang. Enjoy!

Is Kerry A Liar or His Wife's Bitch?

Being a Michigander and the daughter of a former autoworker, I am always interested in how well the auto industry is doing-- and if politicians are out there trying to fuck us over and kill Michigan jobs.

I was particularly interested in eco-friendly, Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry's thoughts du jour on automobile fuel economy standards. Standards too high could REALLY HURT the AUTO INDUSTRY and UNION WORKERS. He supports raising the current standards to 36 miles per gallon by 2015.

Ouch.

That seems really consistent since he is very pro-environment. As he said in his speech, in Florida, "Being responsible about the environment is not some goo-goo, do-gooder, silly notion that you embrace once a year on Earth Day," railed Kerry to a Florida crowd. "It's important to life itself."

I agree. I'm not a big environment person. Trees are nice and all; I'm just not much for hugging them. If you are a big "Earth Day" person, like Kerry, then his ideas about raising the automobile fuel economy standards to a Union worker crippling 36MPG seems fair. Unless, you live in Michigan and want to stay EMPLOYED. Or you live wherever and like driving your SUV, light duty truck or minivan. Either way good for Kerry. I like a man that has principles.

John Kerry was asked on Thursday whether he owned an SUV.

"I don't own an SUV," said Kerry

Cool. Very commendable. How about the Mrs.? Hey, doesn't she own a Chevy Suburban?

Kerry thought for a second when asked whether his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, had a Suburban at their Ketchum, Idaho, home. Kerry said he owns and drives a Dodge 600 and recently bought a Chrysler 300M. He said his wife owns the Chevrolet SUV.

"The family has it. I don't have it," he said.

Nice principles. I like how he blames "the family".

So which is it?

LIAR or Teresa's BITCH?

or BOTH!

Keep me posted on the new blog sister-woman!

BTW - are you aware of the train wreck that's called the Massachusett's Environmental Record? They have more violations per capita of any northeast state.

Ahem... Do you smell a hypcocrite here?

Posted by Gordon the Magnificent on April 23, 2004 at 9:14 PM

Rose, this is the stupidest question ever. The answer is so obviously "BOTH". He's a liar because he'll do anything to get elected, but sometimes he just lies because his wife is his master. I mean, either way, he's a whore, so what's the difference?

Posted by dowingba on April 23, 2004 at 9:19 PM

I will brutha-man.

I smell something. What is it with these hippies, they always leave a smell?

Liar, Bitch or Both:

Hey, you're talking about Teddy Kennedy's most favorite candidate....Boston bred...brahman bull-shipper....its keeps ya in office...

Kerry only drives Hamtramck made Dodge's...Huh ?

God bless the environment....

The environmentalists made it to an anti-Arnold Schwarzenegger SUV rally. Seems its un-PC to drive a hummer...but apparently its okay to get one if you're a democrat president in the Whitehouse.

Sorry, its friday.....

Okay, so I'm not intimately connected to the Michigan automobile industry, but could someone explain to me how increasing the mpg average of the whole fleet is going to kill off union jobs?

I was not aware that employment was so closely linked to fuel efficiency.

?????

Posted by bryan on April 23, 2004 at 9:32 PM

Waitjustagoshdarnminute here...

He drives a DODGE 600?!?!?!?!

They stopped making those in the mid-1980s. This is a man who owns a tony pad in the most expensive part of Boston, an Italian villa, a sprawling ranch in Idaho, *AND* a beach house on Martha's Vineyard, and he's driving a 20 year old automobile???

Them older cars ain't known for low emissions. And it doesn't get anywhere NEAR 36 MPG. Unless it's being towed (which, for that model, was a distinct possibility).

You'd think he could get Thereeessssssssse to spot him the 20G's needed to buy a Prius.

'Course, why would he need one when he takes limos everywhere he goes. Including the "Earth Day" talk in 2002...

I hope YOUR site has more to offer than that weak-ass post you just put up. All politicians lie, it's just that Bush's lies tend to KILL more people than Kerry's.

Again...cheap, weak, and biased.

Bryan,

That is because the only way for car companies to meet the unrealistic numbers in the underlying amendment is to cut back significantly on making the light trucks, the minivans, and the SUVs.

That not only affects the auto workers but those in trades that require trucks or SUVs. And it screws the farmers too.

Posted by Rosemary the Queen of All Evil on April 23, 2004 at 10:00 PM

Tim,

Whatever. What Bush lies? WMD's? Please, even Hillary said (on CNN)that Bush wasn't LYING.

Posted by Rosemary the Queen of All Evil on April 23, 2004 at 10:02 PM

As a Michigander, former Dearbornite (current Lansingite) it isn't just the assembly line jobs, there are also the engineering, design, parts, etc. jobs and all of the other people who provide goods and services to the auto workers. Drop the auto industry and everything in the Great Lakes basin (US and Canada) will suffer. Agriculture, tourism, import/export (BTW, with the border crossing, the vessel passages and dockage, railroad transhipments, and so forth, the Port of Detroit is the second most valuable port in the US, after Long Beach, CA.)

Yes, death to the automobile. It'll make a great start for the funeral pyre of the Old Northwest.

could someone explain to me how increasing the mpg average of the whole fleet is going to kill off union jobs?

Basically, the domestic automakers can't reach a fleet average of 36 MPG, even if you give them ten years in which to do it. So you are essentially making it illegal for Americans to build cars.

Symptomatic of the domestic automakers' problems is the belief that a 36 MPG average will require selling fewer trucks and SUVs. In reality, though, it's not like there are many American vehicles of any size that get over 36 MPG. If the Big Three stopped making trucks and SUVs entirely, they'd still fall far short. No, the only way to do this is to design ALL your passenger cars to get at least 50 MPG, and ALL your trucks to get at least 30.

Ten years is tight, but Toyota could do it and make a profit. Honda could do it, too. Ford and GM simply can't. This is because Toyota and Honda have already started, since they are smart, whereas Ford and GM have not, because they are dumb. (Ford is in fact licensing Toyota's hybrid technology.) The old Chrysler would never have been able to, but maybe DaimlerChrysler can -- we'll see. The fact is, fuel economy is going to go up over the next ten years, thanks to the efforts of the Japanese. The only real question is, how much do we want to shoot for?

Posted by Jerry Kindall on April 23, 2004 at 10:39 PM

Personally, I don't think Kerry is shooting high enough. He wants a clear distinction between him and Bush, right?

Infinite MPG! Kerry is planning on proving Einstein wrong by November!!

Not that Kerry's 'earth' day pronouncements this week are un-important for our environmental friends, which is why we got his I own a 'Dodge' speech, consider other Kerry doublespeak that happened this past week. If this stuff is true, then, lets hear truth.

"This morning, Kerry addressed NARAL Pro-Choice America at their rally leading up to Sunday's pro-abortion "March for Women's Lives" here in DC.

Imagine, just a few short days after meeting with Cardinal McCarrick and trumpeting the fact that he's a Catholic "in good standing" who received the Eucharist at Easter, he's now a major speaker at the largest gathering of abortion activists this year.

Of course, Kerry's pro-abortion position isn't news. But this really takes the cake. Bill Clinton, certainly no friend to the pro-life
cause, never once addressed an abortion rally in all his years as president. If Clinton wouldn't even attend these events, what does it say that Kerry will? "

I vote "bitch," just to pile on. Kick 'em while they're down, I always say.

Maybe Kerry should outlaw cars? After all, cars kill more people than guns do, and there's no pesky Constitutional right to get in the way...

Me, I think Tim's just in a pissy mood because he's cheering for a pussy-whipped ("yes, TerESa, no, TerESa...") French bitch, instead of a red-blooded Texas he-man like Dubya. He's probably jealous because all the hot patriotic chicks were checking out Dubya's "package" when he was wearing that flight suit, too! (I'm not making that up; I actually saw several articles to that effect last spring, believe it or not)

There, Rose; how's that for "going out with a bang!?"

That's easy...his wife's bitch..

Posted by lighters on April 24, 2004 at 1:12 AM

Well that is going out with a bang Rosemary.
( I hear Dean in the background...that's my gal, with a smile as big as Texas)

Being the daughter of a very good man that was in the auto industry, I think ya know what your talking about. It is funny that Kerry said the family owned it. Dah..., you mean if you are married you don't own a car together? Splain to this dumb blonde. Then again maybe that's why I am single...the car belonged to Him and I had no part in the ownership of the car. Gee, I have got a lot to learn if I ever think about getting married.

I do wonder about Kerry going to that abortion ralley and how he can say he is a Catholic in good standing. That I do not understand and perhaps somebody that is rooting for Kerry can explain that. (Yes it's friday nite and I'm full of vim & vinegar me Grandma would say).

I heard that that same SUV he couldn't quite convince himself he had responsibility for on Earth Day was a topic of discussion when he was in Detroit awhile ago pandering to some autoworkers.

True?

Tim, what's your favorite lie of Bush's? Just curious. I collect them.

Posted by Brian Jones on April 24, 2004 at 1:36 AM

"The family has it. I don't have it".

Just when you think you can't get anything better than "I voted for it before I voted against it", he gives you another high fast ball.

God I love this Democrat.

Posted by Dave in Texas on April 24, 2004 at 1:43 AM

The Chrysler 300M is made in DaimlerChrysler's ONTARIO, CANADA plant. Kerry's a total hoser.

Posted by feste on April 24, 2004 at 2:00 AM

I own a SUV and my husband owns a little Saturn. He completely HATES my SUV and how bad it is for the environment. If you asked him if he owns a SUV, he would absolutely say no and I would agree with him. If you asked me if I owned a Saturn I would say no. I don't like his little car at all.

Raising the standard for MPG is not going to put any auto company out of business. If anything it will probably create more jobs. All auto companies, GM, Chrysler and Ford included are working on coming up with and will continue to develop hybrid vehicles, vehicles using fuel cell technology and other environmentally friendly sources of power. They will have to do this in order to compete in the auto industry. They are way behind foreign automakers like Toyota and Honda in this arena and they are trying to play catch up.

Posted by Alice, Lil' Sis of the QOAE on April 24, 2004 at 2:10 AM

mandating scientific discovery does not create more jobs. it creates less, as more money has to be spent on research, dividends go down; stock prices go down; hiring goes down; lay offs go up. why ? because the cost of the scientist is higher than the cost of the autoworker Further, more scientists don't help the problem--if it takes ten years to solve a problem with 1 scientists, 10 scientists don't solve it in 1 year; it takes at least 8. so you're hiring less people, paying them more, and laying more off.

alternatively to laying people off, you could increase the cost of your cars. but then less people buy them because less people can afford them. so then you lay off more people--who also can't afford to buy your car.

option 3? making the "us government" pay for US automakers to catch up? that means we pay. more taxes or more deficits. again, bad for us. bad for the autoworker.

as a general rule, invention comes cheapest when it has to. at every point in time before that, it's bloody expensive. mandating that they invent better cars overnight will cost a bloody fortune for everyone here.

Bitch. He doesn't exist if not for wifey's checkbook

Posted by TC-LeatherPenguin on April 24, 2004 at 3:16 AM

Much as I'd like to bash Mr. Mrs.-Ketchup on this one, I can't. He said he didn't own an SUV. He doesn't. Contrary to popular opinion, husbands and wives can and do own property independently of each other, especially in non-community property states such as Massachusetts (or, for that matter, Michigan). Even in community property states, gifts and inherited wealth are generally presumed to be the separate property of the person who inherited it. So if Mrs. Ketchup used her family's money to buy the SUV, Mr. Mrs.-Ketchup was telling the truth: it is her car, not his.

That rule sucks, BTW, as Mrs. Xrlq's old man is loaded. Oh well.

Posted by Xrlq on April 24, 2004 at 4:00 AM

"Mandating scientific discovery"? Does anyone see the difficulty with this little statement? While we're at it, how about we mandate better health? Oh, and a growing economy! We'll just pass a law, and people will work on it and, ta-da!, there it'll be. (lest there be any mistake, my comment was not directed at foo)

But that's a topic for another post. For now, let's talk about Kerry. He said he doesn't own an SUV. Except for when he says he does:

"We have some SUVs. We have a Jeep. We have a couple of Chrysler minivans. We have a PT Cruiser up in Boston. I have an old Dodge 600 that I keep in the Senate . . . We also have a Chevy, a big Suburban."

I wonder how many pairs of flip-flops he has in his closet. Do you think he has more flip-flops than Teresa has shoes?

Posted by DSmith on April 24, 2004 at 6:54 AM

Another point needs to be stated. My brother has four children. Any vehicle that got 36 miles per gallon would not carry his family. He needs a mini-van. So could Mr. Kerry explain, please, how something as big as a mini-van is going to get 36 mpg?

While we're wishing, I want a sports car (I don't like ponies.)

Mike

Posted by Mike on April 24, 2004 at 8:32 AM

36 ,miles per gallon for an SUV is possible right now kids. But this is really much ado about nothing, oil princes in 15 years will be such that unless you’re very wealthy you won’t be able to afford a vehicle that only gets 15 per gallon. In fact many more union jobs will be lost because of a short sighted energy policy like Bush’s “Drain America First” Plan then the CAFÉ standard being raised to 40+ in 15 years.

Posted by Rick DeMent on April 24, 2004 at 9:24 AM

My error in posting earlier about Kerry being at an abortion ralley. He probably is in good standing with his faith and I should not knock him on that. The truth being known is there are many catholics, christians on the side of pro choice. I think Kerry probably did think this through or he wouldn't have been there and he does want to appeal to women to get their votes.

It is true that in some states cars are not community property so it's not a big deal that he says he does not own a SUV. When you have a large family or a couple of children an SUV is a nice car to own. I posted earlier before thinking this through myself. I would think making better fuel consuption cars from Ford and other American cars would not hurt people in Detroit. Wouldn't it provide just as many jobs as it does now if not more. How many scientist does it take to build one anyway. Volvo just build a car that was designed for women by women. That tells me we don't have to hire a large amount of scientist, just a good group of knowlegeable people. This is of course IMO & FWIW, I felt I opined too soon earlier.

My favorite Bush lie? Hmmm. Sadaam was involved with 9/11. Now he has never outright said it, but he strongly implied it. But the strange thing about my feelings about Bush is that I agree with him on taking out Sadaam, but don't tell me it's because he is a threat to our national security with the gathering storm shit. Just say, "we're taking him out because he's a bad MF, and it's his time to go." "Plus, he tried to kill my daddy." I'm on board with that.

Maybe it's not so much that I dislike Bush as it is I dislike Rove and Cheney and Rumsfield and Wolf-a twits.

BTW, I'm anxiously awaiting the Queen's launch, and I promise I will try and make it interesting. I'm getting sick of all these blogs that are biased either left or right. That's why I love Dean's World, even if us lefties get pushed to the back of the bus.

Posted by Tim the Soldier on April 24, 2004 at 3:08 PM

That's pretty good Tim when you differentiated between Bush and the other officials.

You lefties sit in the back of the bus and I don't know where to sit sometimes! I am still awaiting a closer deadline when Bush and Kerry go head to head.

Kerry isn't part of 'the family'?

Separation of man and family?

Niiiiiice family values there.

Lol, I agree with you on that Tim. Bush could just use some better, more moderate advisers, and he'd probably win my vote.
