QuikClot
Wow. Shows how well I keep up. I had thought that products like QuikClot only existed in science fiction, although I figured something like it would appear on the market sooner or later.
I like the following claim: "Military researchers found that the mortality rate dropped from 33.4% for wounds treated with dressings, pressure, and IV fluids to 0% when treated with Quick Clot™."
Neato.
(Thanks Joel.)
Better than Super Glue!
Is this thing legit? It looks like it is, but I hesitate to trust, given some of their other products.
Products like this do exist, although I can't vouch for Quikclot. It's what we used to call "fibrin glue". It won't work on big, nasty arterial pumpers, which still have to be clamped and tied or put back together again.

Show us the study..........we want to examine and/or challenge the findings.

What, Dave, you don't think "Doo Drops" are legit?
Veterinarians, animal shelters, etc., have had something like this for years: styptic powder.
Take a look at http://www.sitstay.com/store/health/grooming1.shtml.
I'm more familiar with TraumaDEX, but it's probably very similar.

What?! So it's impossible to die if you have Quick Clot™ around?
Yes, its the real thing. You boys have a septic pencil, or at least my dad did. Works in principle to stop those nicks when you shave. They have a product on the market like super glue, but it doesn't allow the wound to heal like the products used in hospitals.
We've used an adhesive type bandage called Tegaderm for over 30 years for decubiti--ulcerations, also known as bed sores.
It's pretty cool when tissue is damaged beyond belief. The body is pretty miraculous when given a nudge or two.
Katherine: It's a styptic pencil. You really wouldn't want to use a septic one! But yeah, they're in common use for pets. It kinda surprises me more people don't use them, now that I think of it.
Rick,
Thanks! :)
