Chris Rock (Rosemary, the QOAE)
He is the funniest man on the planet. I'm still laughing. I watched his HBO special last night and I'm watching it again right now.
I love him.

Dean's World Defending the liberal tradition in history, science, and philosophy. |
I haven't seen all of his latest special, but what I have seen is very funny.
I think I've written this before, but I'll say it again: Chris Rock is also proof that most of black America is far more conservative, especially socially, than most people suspect or even than they themselves generally realize. It's kind of the dirty little secret of black politics.
I don't know Dean. I read plenty of liberal publications and the social conservativism of black America is something I've read of fairly often - whenever the subject is raised really.
I also saw the comedy special, missed the first couple of minutes though. It was great, always love to hear what Chris Rock has to say. Though he seemed kind of libertarian to me rather than conservative, considering his views on drugs, though I would agree that there are more black conservatives than many think. I think they are just like every other group politically - they've got a healthy mix of conservatives, liberals, ect.
He said that he was both conservative and liberal. For him it was all about what issue you are talking about. I will agree that if we were to label him he definitely sounded Libertarian.
Most people are a little of both. We just line up with the group that represents our priorities more.
if you want to get a real dose of African American conservative values, watch the movie "Barbershop"...I laughed till I hurt...the movie was courageous in that the filmmaker did a lot to debunk myths that white people have about black people, especially the myth that black people like entitlement programs and like being dependent on the government...I caught an underlying theme that the black community needs to embrace the best of the older generation (hard work, respect towards others) and the best of the new generation (self-reliance, pride in achievement).
Man oh man, if the so-called "leadership" in the African American community realized the political leverage they have, they could really be a relevant political force again, rather than the taken-for-granted, politically neutralized force they are now.
I dunno, maybe I watched the wrong Chris Rock special. Parts of the routine were funny, but most of it seemed like old stuff. I mean, how many times can you crack on crackers before its just not as funny anymore. In his last special it was his uncle who hates crackers, but is married to a white woman. This time around he's not afraid of Al-Qaeda, but he is terrified of Al-Cracker. Same Joke, different setup.
His relationship comedy was funny, but that was about it. It was funny for me because it was new.
Maybe I need to watch it again a few times (God Bless TiVo) and see the apparent brilliance I must have missed.
Unquestionably the funniest guy on the circuit! Conservative, Liberal.. either way he gets it. I agree Rosemary. Probably Libertarian is the best pigeon hole for him.
He was on Letterman the other night and that bastard THINKS funny. His mind, I swear, works faster than Robin Williams'. This shit just flies out of his brain unedited. That's a gift.
I thought Chris Rock was hillarious!!! I have seen his other specials and while he may have used some recurring themes - it was still great. I also totally agree that we are all liberal and conservative. It all comes down to the issues. Chris Rock rocks! My side hurt so bad from laughing so hard. By the way, he sure doesn't look 39. As my girlfriend Renee would say "black don't crack."
