Tomorrow

Aaron would like me to remind folks that tomorrow is Buy A Gun To Spite Michael Moore Day.

Aaron might want to rename the day. I'm always surprised when conservatives say Moore is anti-gun, because he's just not. After all, Michael Moore is a long-time NRA member. "Bowling for Columbine" was about the culture of fear in this country, and how some people exploit that. Moore makes the point, in the movie, that Canadians have just as many guns as we do, but their level of gun violence is way below ours. It's about culture, not evil gun owners.

Michael Moore, of course, lied and distorted all through Bowling for Columbine, pretty much to the point of libel in Charlton Heston's case (except that as a celebrity it's impossible for Heston to sue successfully) but really all over the place.

It wasn't a documentary, it was deeply dishonest, and it profoundly and viciously stereotyped gun owners in general, NRA members, and many others. Especially everyday gun owners, not to mention Americans in general.

Moore being an NRA member would be like Ann Coulter donating money to the Democratic National Committee and saying she "supports the Democratic Party."

He's a professional hatemonger. Indeed, a very successful hate monger, considering that he's made himself a multi-multi-millionaire selling dishonesty.

If you don't believe me, again, just ask Spinsanity.

The man is an utter embarassment. You shouldn't try defending him, Adam.

Stating a fact is defending, Dean?

PS. I intensely dislike Michael Moore but stating that Michael Moore is an NRA member is a fact. Although, saying that Canada has just as many guns is clearly incorrect, so maybe Adam is up a tree?

On a lighter note, tomorrow is also Eye on the Prize National Colonoscopy Awareness Day.

I'm defending Moore against the charge that he's anti-gun. Not only is he an NRA member, but he grew up shooting, as he talks about in the movie. (He was such a good shot as a teenager that he won an NRA award for marksmanship.) And he clearly states in the movie that guns are not the problem - it's the culture that is. Just trying to clear that one up.

And that's why he spent the entire movie piling lie upon distortion, upon disinformation?

If he really wanted to explore violence in America, then why didn't he do a movie about that, instead of the dreadful hachet-job that was released?

Ok, Adam: we'll not argue with the statement that Moore is an NRA member, as long as you don't argue with the statement that Moore is a pompus, lying, hypcritical fuck.

Deal? :)

Take firm grip on your grain of salt.

OT alert- Per Drudge (again):

Well, we all new those chickens would come home to roost, just not so soon.

oops- what's wrong with dropping a "k" here and there? We all know there are too many "ks" in the world. Look at all the trouble the KKK caused.

Stating that Michael Moore is a member of the NRA in the context of this discussion would be reasonably interpeted as an attempt to defend him, yes. Because it's irrelevent to the discussion otherwise.

If after finding out everything he did to make gun owners, gun manufacturers, and defenders of gun rights look stupid, paranoid, or evil--in other words, to pump up every vicious stereotype of gun owners imaginable--you still think he's "not anti-gun," okay. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

I've already got some of the god-damnest guns that most people only set to see in feature films. And even then, the grim-faced folks on the silver screen are shooting mostly blanks. My stuff is for real.

To spite Michael Moore with? Fuck him. I bought my (legally registered) Thompson M1A1 submachine guns to have serious class three fun with at the local range.

(One of these days, I'll put up a picture or two on the web about all this stuff. Casey Tompkins will appreciate that, even if nobody else does.)

A few years ago,I found a machine gun for sale (in a publication) that I would have LOVED to own. It was the actual weapon used in the "Predator" movie. .308 cal. minigun, for the low,low price of $125,000. But wait! The price also includes enough links for a thousand round belt. About ten seconds worth.

Ummm... the day WAS renamed to the more pithy (no lisp) Buy A Gun Day or the even pithier BAG Day.

The Michael Moore part was from last year.

Oh, and there's a Clinton Dog Chew Toy raffle for participants, too.

I'm thinking of a Lady Smith for my lovely wife. It's not completely like that bowling ball Homer gave Marge.
