Oh, The Heck With It

I just have to re-post this:

girl_with_flag.jpg
Elizabeth Menegon, sister of Army Special Forces reservist Maj. David Menegon, rushes toward her brother, who has just arrived, at the Old Greenwich train station in Greenwich, Conn., on Wednesday. He had been deployed to Iraq for 14 months.

Wow! You just don't see this enough in our PC world

When you left America the country we grew up together in, my heart sank. I questioned your reasons for going, I grew up with you and we played together in our back yard. When we got a little older Mom felt it would be safe to go a short distance to the neighborhood playground. When we started school Dad was working hard to make sure we had clothes and school supplies to learn how to read and write. I remember when we learned the Pledge of Allegiace to the Flag of the United States of America with our small little arms across our hearts.

When we were in high school we learned about our government in great detail and how our forfathers formed the Declaration of Independance with forsight and vision for America. We learned how to debate and discuss our laws and how we could change some, make some better, and the sheer beauty of free speech.

We had our dreams of the colleges we might attend or careers we wanted to pursue. We were free to do anything we wanted, go anywhere we wanted, when we wanted, after all this is America the land of opportunity.

Now you've been gone for a long long time dear *brother*, and I have missed you so very much. You went off to a foreign land to free people of horrible dictators and to assure the United States She would endure and be safe from those seeking to harm and destroy Her and everything She stands for. My questions for you leaving were answered.

What can I do to show you, to tell you how very much I love you for your unselfish sacrifice to leave these United States for Our Protection, how can I Assure you that what you did for me, for Us, means you mean so much to me and how very proud I am you are my *brother*, and you are my hero, Our Hero and because of you I can finally run into your arms welcoming you home...

This is how my dear , dear *brother*, this is how!

Soldier son returned home from Iraq. Safe and Sound.

It's heavenly to have his shoes in the middle of the floor, hear his, "Mom" voice sounding from down the hall.

He says we can take the 119 yellow ribbons down from the tree in the front yard soon. All the soldiers from his unit are home now, safe and sound. We will put up 105 more for his regular unit that was depolyed to the sandbox a few days ago. They will remain until those soldiers return home as well.

Dean and Rosemary--thank you for remembering not to forget.

Dude... she's kind of cute. Of course, her brother could kill me in half-a-second without even thinking about it...

IG: oh, no! I think she's a cutie, too.

And I'm sure her brother would be only too happy to leave you alone, as long as your intentions were honorable. {chuckle}

Dean, I have to say it: that is a truly magnificent shot. Not just because it's "patriotic," but because it is a great photograph.

I think this is in the same class as the shot of JFK's son saluting, or the shot of the lone Kent State girl bending over a classmate asking "why?"

Well, there is one difference: this is a happy, proud moment.

This is why we do or have done what we do. This is why we LOVE our country and are willing to die in her service and protection. For moments like these and the freedom to be anything we want to be. For these reasons I would still give my life for my countrymen even if they do not appreciate it. If not us then who?
