Ovulation Stuff

Did you know that when women ovulate, they tend to eat less? They also tend to get more competitive with other women.

There are also studies which document that women are more likely to "forget" to use birth control, and tend to dress in more revealing clothing, during that time in their cycle. I can't find online references for that but I can give paper references for anyone who's interested.

Evolution's a funny thing, ain't it?

I can say that from my experiences with my wife that those conclusions are valid.

People are just the DNA's way of making more DNA.

A girlfriend of mine used to refer to that period as "mini heat."

Evolution-schmevolution! We were created that way for a specific purpose - to make babies. Mini-heat, indeed.

Neither-nor. Ovulation is Nature's way of telling a woman it's time to get laid.

Up the sex drive, make copulation imperative, and you increase the chance of conception.

IOW, sex is not about reproduction, sex is about sex. Reproduction is a (possible) consequence.

BTW, the May Discover has an article on how conditions months before can affect conception.

I like your thinking there Dani. Mr. Alan Kellogg, ovulation is nature's way of telling a woman it's time to get laid? Golly, no wonder I have had such a dry spell. I had a total hysterectomy many years ago and no more ovulating for me but...

My sex drive spikes the day before my period. That can't be right..

...and I don't eat less while I'm ovulating - I just eat more when I'm not.

My sex drive spikes the day before my period. That can't be right.

Damn, beat me to it. One of life's little cruelties, that.

I was actually told to "hurry up and quit bleeding, then" once (not meant permanently a la menopause, though). Hey, I would if I could.

Mine does too. It's like a squirel loading up in preparation for a 6 day winter...

Testosterone levels often go up just before menstruation. Feeling a little more horny would be a normal reaction to that.

Testosterone levels often go up just before menstruation.

Aaaahhhh, that might explain the odd "sleep with him or punch him?" dilemma then.

Yeah, I get all noisy like a rutting deer, too.

By the way, I'm on the pill; ergo, I don't ovulate. Hmmm. Interesting.

Is it taboo to have intercourse during your menstral cycle? I have that problem too when during my period I get extremely well you know! so why is it so taboo? My boyfriend doesn't mind so why not?

Posted by Melisa on April 08, 2004 at 10:12 AM

Well of COURSE a womans sex drive goes up right before menstration starts; last chance to fertilize, get 'em while their hot!

And implantation of a fertilized egg isn't impossible while bleeding, it depends on how far along the 'flush, reset' cycle the uterus is.

And I've never understood the taboo against sex while she's on her period, at least not since the advent of running water and plumbing!

Well ain't it the truth! More people need to be educated on the fact that it isn't taboo. Most people get that it is from the Bible, which everone has their belives so....oh if you want it have it! Are you saying that women can get pregnant during their menstral cycle? Wow that is scary isn't it?!
