Chess

I've found a very nice free online chess service Cowplay.

It's really quite good. I'm not much of a chess player. I'm good at it for a casual player, but long ago realized that to get really good I'd have to devote a lifetime of study to it, and promptly lost interest. Still, I like this online version, for you can challenge others and take days between moves if need be. Dig it.

Interesting. I've always loved chess and other board games, though it's been years since I've lived where there are any other chess players at hand. I've played my brother over the Internet. Also have played against my computer now and then, dating back to Sargon III ("requires DOS 2.1 or higher"). Nowadays I occasionally play against my computer running gnome-chess as a very minimalistic graphical front end for the gnuchess chess engine. The computer always wins.

I remember hearing, way back when, about "correspondence chess," which I assume was played in those bygone days by penny postcard. Nowadays the Net does away with the need for a postcard.

Well, sign up and you can challenge me to a game if you like. Not that I'm any good.
