Trunk Monkey's Creators
I've mentioned these ads before, but if you haven't seen the Trunk Monkey Ads, you should.
If you look at the site carefully, you can see the ads were created for this auto dealership. But frankly, they're so good, I think the dealership and the people who created the ads should try to make some kind of deal with other chains nationally.
Ah, but anyway, in looking at the ads I found myself curious about who had created them. It turns out to be the R/West agency. It's worth visiting their site to see their other work. Just click their link and then click "Work."
I especially like the image of the dancing girl, the jeans ad, and all the auto ads.
I especially liked the "I love my car" ad.
laughed my butt off, then sent the hyperlink to some friends...classic example of how you can be creative and funny without having to be crude...the boys who did the farting horse ad for the Super Bowl could take a cue from these people...
They include the print ad for the Blackberry Milkshake at Burgerville on their work page. I hadn't realized that the trunkmonkey ads came from the same outfit; that's pretty cool.
For those of you not from the Portland, OR, area, Burgerville is what fast food burger joints are supposed to be. There's about 40 locations, if I recall correctly ("inconveniently located for most of America"). There are billboards near the ones farthest from Portland, saying "25,000 miles to the next Burgerville", with a picture of a globe with a dotted line drawn around it.
The food is excellent - the cheese comes from the Tillamook dairy co-op, the beef is local and organic. The core menu is unchanged for thirty years, but there are always new seasonal items. Examples:
* giant Walla Walla sweet onion rings
* hazelnut milkshakes
* sweet potato fries
* the aforementioned berry milkshakes
For breakfast, I sometimes get the closest thing they have to an Egg McMuffin - it's a fresh bagel, sandwiched around a fried (local) egg, a slice of Tillamook cheddar, and a sausage patty. It is to the lowly McMuffin as a Cadillac is to a Kia.
Sure, it costs a little more than Burger King - but I still drive 6 miles each way to get to the nearest Burgerville when I want a burger.
I love the trunk monkey ads. The first time I saw the ad I laughed til tears ran down my face. I can think of about 100 opportunities a day where that monkey would come in handy navigating the streets of the Los Angeles suburbs and highways.
The talking on the phone while driving comes to mind.
Great ad campaign.
Those were some of the best and most tasteful bits of advertising I've seen lately. There should be more people like them. :: nod ::
I'd seen the first one a long time ago, but I'd never seen the others. The 4th one is hilarious.
Speaking of local eggs, Milwaukee's George Webb chain (classic burger and breakfast diners) is now advertising hardy omelettes made from eggs from Wisconsin chickens raised up in pool halls and bowling alleys, not on some namby-pamby free range farm in Montana.
