John Eddy is asking for predictions for how many people will be killed at this summer's national Democratic and Republican conventions.
My bet would be 2 or 3 in Boston and upwards of 9 or 10 in New York.
This is going to be the ugliest year since 1968. Although with any luck we won't have any latter-day Rubins, Hoffmans, or Haydens running around.
You may want to go share your predictions with John.
See, I'm a "glass half full" kinda guy. I gotta go with 0 and 0.
I'll go with 0 and 0 as well - there really isn't as much anger out there as punditry would have us believe....the anti-war left can't even scare up 1,000 people for demonstrations these days, and the pro-war types aren't about to go on a rampage...
Wimps. The conventions easily have to be more contentious than the average English soccer match. That would make it 1 to nil. But the twist is that the victim will be a lost Red Sox fan in NYC who just followed the crowd thinking they were all heading to Yankee Stadium. Equal coverage will be seen on both CNN and ESPN.
He who looks into the crystal ball is bound to eat broken glass.
Call me naive, but why would anyone be killed at the national conventions? Has anyone been killed at them in, say, the past thirty years? Are the tensions between the various ideologies running that high? Please, enlighten me.
Check out the "margolis incident" where some Bushies got slugged by some union guys.
And of course, a few years back, my brother got a brick tossed through his windshield of his moving truck by some union guys just because he was driving on the 'wrong road'. He had no relation to the problem at all, just trying to take a shortcut.
Tadeusz who wants to support unions, but ...
I think my "expected value" estimate is about 10 in New York, 2 in Boston. I don't expect any, at either, but the probability of a "mass casualty event" (terrorist attack, bloody assassination attempt, or mass shooting) is high enough to warrant those expectations.
Well, I did read about the Margolis incident. As thuggish as that behavior was, they were not killed, not even close.
OK, puzzle me this- who will the dead be? Left or right? I guess with a terrorist attack, the answer will simply be "Americans". I just don't think we'll be killing each other.
I predict Boston zero, and NYC one. I refuse to think that this country has sunk so far as to have intentional casualties at political conventions. Still, I just know there's some crazy thats going to accidentially do in himself or someone else.
