Wolverine State Bloggers
The bloggers of Tennessee have the Rocky Top Brigade. Alabama has the Axis of Weevil. California has the Bear Flag League. Well, it looks like Marc, of Marcland fame, has decided to challenge the domination of these oppressive hegemons with a new, upstart rival:
This dread alliance of wolverine state (i.e. Michigan) weblogs will soon crush all who oppose it.
We are proud to say that Dean's World is the first officially listed member of this soon-to-be-mighty, all-powerful Empire. If you run a weblog here in Michigan, you may want to join too. If you're a Michigander with a blog, go visit Marc and let him know.
Resistance is futile! All will bow before us!

Resistance is futile. The BFL will crush the little wolverines.
Muck Fishigan!
(Just kiddin', hon. Heh.)
I saw a car (I remember specifically that it was a blue Ford Galaxie) in Chicago many years ago, with a bumper sticker "Caution: I brake for small animals except Michigan Wolverines".
You did of course note the news story about the first wolverine ever sighted in Michigan last month.
Well, if we're getting into bumper stickers, there's always "flush twice, it's a long way to columbus."
"You did of course note the news story about the first wolverine ever sighted in Michigan last month."
Which begs an arcane question that seems ripe for this group: "Why is it called the Wolverine State?"
Even though I qualify to be a member of a Michigan Blogger Alliance I will never, EVER, associate my good name with the mangy, flea-ridden rodentia so loved by the fans of that second class university in the People's Republic of Ann Arbor. Go Green!
By the way, to all the U of M fans out there: Are you enjoying the NIT? Isn't it nice to know that even if you win the whole thing that you're still only the 66th best team in the country? :)

Here's my favorite story about how we came to be known as the wolverine state - "Some people believe that Ohioans gave Michigan the nickname around 1835 during a dispute over the Toledo strip, a piece of land along the border between Ohio and Michigan. Rumors in Ohio at the time described Michiganians as being as vicious and bloodthirsty as wolverines. This dispute became known as the Toledo War." (Info from the Michigan Dept. of History, Arts & Libraries.) Personally, I love the story of angry Michiganders chasing surveyors from Ohio out of Michigan while firing guns over their heads...
Steve Duane:
I had contemplated that this may be a problem at some point. I believe I may have an acceptable solution to the problem, so stay tuned.
Hm, what would an Oklahoma association of blogs be called?
The Rogers & Hammerstein Chorale?
Sooner Alliance?
OK Brigade?
Redbud League?
Blogger Squaredance?
Oklahoma: The League of Bubba
in dishonor of our last Prez, of course :)
