Diot Coke

CNN reports that historicans have uncovered the birth records of a girl whose parents named her Diot Coke back in 1379. Interesting, during this era, it was common for girls to have names like "Thomas" and "Phillip," too.

I notice they foisted all these picaresque monikers on late medieval girls, rather than their male counterparts. Which proves more than anything else I can think of that they thought no more about women back then in medieval Europe, than modern moslems do today.

So first they steal the first name of a boy, Tab; then they steal the full name of girl from 1379...

Has the CocaCola Corporation any shame?!!!

Not sure I agree with that, on multiple levels, Arnold. First off because there was no mocking intended that I can see in those names, and second, I think women in medieval Europe had quite a bit of respect. But maybe I'm just odd in my perspective on these things.

JFH must be a secret Pepsico agent.

But I agree. I don't like Coke, either. And back in my junkfood days, I would go out of my way to select those places not stuck with the exclusive Coke franchise monopoly.

Dean,

Tell me for real you would have married a girl with a name like Dionisia, Idony or Helwise.

Arnold,

I live in the south. It's against the the law here to speak ill of Coke.

Seriously, though, when my wife's relatives were killed in a tragic plane crash into a mountain in Kenya; Coke provided their private jet to pick up the parent-less childred that were staying in South Afica. They had better contacts in these countries than the State Department and helped cut through red tape to quickly return the children and the remains to the US.

I will drink nothing but Coke products for the rest of my life.

JFH,

I know of what you write. Whenever I'm in some parts of the south and ask for a Pepsi, they look at me as if I want some type of toothpaste rather than a soft drink.

But truly that was a nice gesture the Coca-Cola company did for your family in Kenya.

To be impartial about it, I would hate to see actually what happened to human teeth left in pure laboratory samples either of Pepsi or Coke over a period of time.

You know, if you lived in the South, you might actually meet girls with names like Helwise.

You might also meet men with names like Beverly and Beutatort. So, maybe all Southerners hate their kids.

Well now I know how Johnny Cash came to that song, "A Boy Named Sue".

The name was really "Idiot Coke". Why would you name your daughter like that? To save here from the "evil eye" so that the kid lives and not taken by death. The belief was that if you have an unattractive name, death will not come for you.
