Planets Near Dean's World
Well, now this is kind of fun. You can look up webloggers and such who are near to Dean's World in "meatspace" (i.e. physically nearby):
I'm not sure why anyone would find that interesting but me, but then again, I do always say that this blog merely exists to entertain me, and the rest of you are just along for the ride.
(Via Chris Noble.)
I never heard of this deviantART thing before I added my site to the system. Everyone seems to be near a bunch of deviantART sites, seemingly.
PS: I think you set the wrong coordinates or something, seeing as GeoURL thinks you are "(about 148 miles W of Korla, China)".
Or is there something you aren't telling us, comrade?
(Try making the second number in your coordinates negative. That'll probably fix 'er right up.)
It lists me as being near Candada.
Nope.
Dean is a secret agent gathering information for his Beijing masters. Having to work for them is what drove him to get a dog.
Oops. Chris is probably right, I forgot the - in the second set of numbers. Let's give it a few minutes and see if that fixes it....
It worked fine for me. I already had the metadata in my source code, though.
Well hopefully Livonia is in Michigan, and hopefully you live near it, because in that case, it's fixed. In any case, at least you're in the right hemisphere now.
I'm surprised at how accurate this thing is; it measures to within 1 (and 0) miles. I'm quite impressed. (Didn't notice this looking at my own, because I live in the middle of nowhere anyway and apparently I'm the only web presence within a good 15 miles of me).
Yes, I live quite near Livonia. I'm in Westland, which borders on it, but which somehow does not show up in the mapping program even though it's quite a large suburb.
I think it (the map program) has been updated or something Dean, because I know where you live and I know what you did! Must be what Saddam felt like for the past few years...
The ACME Mapper Dowingba linked doesn't know about Wisconsin. I'll just have to drive by my house with the work Jeep and get my lat-long off the GPS. I'll have my GeoURL up eventfully.
There's a nifty little thing called Localfeeds that aggregates blog postings from folks using the same info that GeoURL does.
Except it looks like they're experiencing technical difficulties in the wake of a hosting switch. Trust me, though. It's neat. If it ever works again.
