Kerry An Improvement for Democrats
Michael J. Totten makes a pretty good point on how far Democrats will have come if they nominate John Kerry. I must confess, I hadn't thought of it that way. I've been too busy being relieved at Howard Dean's implosion.
* Update * Also, apparently, Kerry is getting younger!
Dean,
Hate to break it to ya, but Kerry, if anything, is just a throwback to Mondale/McGovern...it might, on some bizarre plain, be an improvement over Howard Dean, but its only marginal and it wont materially affect the coming result - landslide for President Bush.
I know you're looking for something to support in the Democrats - but the severe drubbing they are about to suffer this November is necessary for the continued health of the American body politic...the leftist virus must be purged from the Democratic Party, and the only way to do this is to have that Party beaten so badly that either the left will leave and form their own little Party, or the moderate Democrats will conduct a purge - be willing to lose even more seats temporarily in the knowledge that a few years down the road, freed from leftism, the Democrats might have something to say to the people of Alabama and North Dakota.
We have our bet already in place, Mark. We'll see what we see.
Fox News had a segment today on why Kucinich and Sharpton were still on the stage with Kerry, Dean, and Edwards.
It didn't make any sense, really, until you see them for what they DO offer.
Edwards, Kerry, and Dean don't look as much like the lunatics/extremists they are, when you have those two goofballs standing on the same stage.
When they're gone and the comic relief is missing, people might begin to notice.
Mrs. du Toit,
Oh, thats a wicked way to look at it - of course, Steyn is essentially making the same argument; the other four are just patsies; people to be beaten by Kerry so that Kerry will continue to look good....the Democrats worst nightmare right now is Kerry de-facto wrapping it up tomorrow...this would mean an end to good, free press...and its a long, long way to August...with President Bush having $130 million to spend and nothing else to do but relentlessly attack the apparant nominee...
Dean,
Indeed. Want to double it?
:o)
Okay. :-)
If the Dem's cut the left from their ticket, wouldn't the two parties look even more alike than they already do?
I dunno. The GOP cut the Buchananites from their ticket in 1992. What did it get them?
Oh yeah...
Where do leftists who want to achieve their political ends go?
I'll mirror this thought from the Partisanship thread. In our 'there are really only two parties' system parties pretty much have to take whoever wants in. Where would you have leftists go? To some third party, say the Green Party, for marginalization? If I were a leftist, I wouldn't leave. I'd stay in the Democratic Party and try achieve my political ends through the only effective means available.
Yours,
Wince
That's some weird comment spam, peter.
