Very touching. gives hope in the midst of bad news stories.
Great addition to your site! A very dignified memorial to our fallen brethren. Maybe we can bring the sculpter here. Some people's idea of memorials here can get rather ugly. I'm truly impressed!
Its another "Iwo Jima" statue for power of presentation...time to bring that home and put it in Arlington...
This is obviously a photoshopped photo placed by Carl Rove to enhance their failed Iraq policy.
Oh sorry, I was channeling the DNC on my back teeth for a moment there.
Did anyone see this covered by the networks?
We've lost more soldiers during the "peace" in Iraq than we did during the active warfare phase.
The price of dictatorship must be remembered so that we have the strength to resist the creeping facism at home. Let us not become like those we fought/fight with, but remain true to our ideologies of democracy and liberty.
It's too simplistic to say "Support our troops, bring them home!" Having participated in making a mess out of Iraq, we must participate responsibly in helping to clean up that mess. Having ignored international law, the UN, and world opinion, it is cravenly immoral to expect others to step in for us. I don't know what the solution is--the simplest solution would have been to have waited for the arms inspectors as the dissenting Security Council member states insisted. Then we either would not have the mess we have now, or we'd be in it with full international support.
But that wouldn't have been in keeping with Mr. Bush's plans from the earliest days of his White House occupation.
Just beautiful. Is there a way we can send letters of thanks to the artist?
So touching that an Iraqi artist would choose to honor American soldiers in this way--the way soldiers honor one another.

Please explain the "creeping facism at home" of which you speak? Considering you do not spell the word 'fascism' correctly, indicates to me you have no idea what this word really means? By the way, because we have the ability to vote our leaders into or out of leadership positions, fascism is an impossible possibility in our system.
After twelve years of Saddam ignoring international law, the UN and world opinion you continue to believe "the simplest solution would have waited for the arms inspectors"? Do you really believe another twelve years of inspections would have made any difference to Saddam.
Other than the recent action taken by President George Bush can you provide a moment in which the international community has ever taken any steps in order to help the people of Iraq. Must be the same ations that have been taken by the international community regarding North Koreans? Absolutely nothing!
Your LSD driven magic bus mentality is tiresome.
I do not believe the artists who crafted this memorial can identify with anything you have stated. My guess is that if we had continued to depend on the international community to take action against Saddam and his threats, this artist would still be crafting statues for that much-hated-by-the-Iraqi-people fascist dictator.
I would further venture to guess that most Iraqis detest the corruption within the United Nations as much as I do.
This artist understands the true meaning of liberty and democracy!
That really is a touching sculpture.
It saddens me beyond belief taht so many "peace" protestors and isolationists don't comprehend the meaning behind the memorial.
It says more than I could ever express in words. I'd like to thank him.
Whatever our differing views on the legality of the war, we are now discussing what I believe is a touching, sincere memorial to our troops. Those troops thought they were fighting for a honorable cause. It is not Bush who is being honored, but our men. We should keep that in mind.
The artist understands the price of freedom.
