MoveOn.Org then:
"The President took the nation to war based on his assertion that Iraq posed an imminent threat to our country. Now the evidence that backed that assertion is falling apart. We believe that":
"Congress must establish an independent,
bipartisan commission to investigate and
hold the President and his officials accountable
if they manipulated or fabricated intelligence
to justify taking the country to war."
MoveOn.org now:
"In an attempt to evade responsibility for the misleading statements that pushed the nation into war, Bush has announced plans to form an independent inquiry to look into what went wrong. An inquiry would serve the Bush administration well: it would envelop the issue in a fog of uncertainty, deflect blame onto the intelligence services, and delay any political damage until 2005, after the upcoming election".
MoveOn meet Sybill.
Sybill meet MoveOn.
Hat Tip: John Cole
The MoveOn people long ago lost credibility with anyone, left, right, or center, who was paying attention. They started, supposedly, purely for the purposes of being a "non-partisan" group to encourage Congress NOT to impeach Bill Clinton. They claimed to be non-partisan, and that their only goal was to convince Americans to "move on" from the Lewinsky affair, to convince people that Clinton's offenses did not rise to the level of impeachment.
However. They fail to note that, virtually alone among prominent Republicans, Governor George W. Bush came out publicly swinging in defense of Bill Clinton in those days, and loudly encouraged his party not to impeach Clinton. Said it was a bad move, was unwise, and we should try to move on from it.
You would think, therefore, that they would have thought him one of their heroes, in their "non-partisan" universe.
But he has, of course, been the target of nothing but vilification and slander and distortion from those folks from day one.
It is a horrible thing that our ridiculous campaign finance "reforms" of recent years has made this moonbat group so important to the Democratic Party. Democrats signed a deal with the devil, they really did.
Interesting. I was aware of MoveOn's preplanned mission creep, but I was not aware that GWB had taken a position on impeachment one way or the other. It is consistent with the way he behaved upon taking office, when outgoing staffers trashed the White House but Bush refused to talk about it.
Woah...Did you see that good looking hunk of a man when you went to meet Sybil? I have to thank you Rosemary! I loved that poster of, ANGEL!!! He was right there next to the Sybil character.
Sybil and Move on org meet one another. This post it good. True enough about the Movin Organization.
Funny, funny how people do that isn't it?
I am going to have to get that Angel movie! A single woman I am, so I can look at him all day. I will definetly go get a DVD player for myself so I can see the movie REAL CLEAR. A friend said you could get a good DVD player at none other than Walmart. Walmart is another funny story, good man that started Walmart and he would roll over in his grave today.
Good Hat tip from John Cole and I thank him too.
Good Post Mrs. Esmay
Oh, DVD player @ Walmart- $39.99!
See ya, know where I'm going today!
MoveOn should take its advice from it's own name.
Rosemary,
That's pretty funny! (although not really surprising!)
The MoveOn people long ago lost credibility with anyone, left, right, or center, who was paying attention.
Of course, that's just it. No one ever pays attention.
Yeah... I have to disagree with Dean on with one about the "lost credibility" bit. It's almost daily that I hear something about that site from leftist Democrats. No, people are still paying attention to it but, thankfully, it seems to only preach to the choir.
And as Mr. Demmons rightly pointed out, no one pays attention.
Um, wait. Did I miss the point of your post?
"Back then," MoveOn said, "Congress must establish an independent, bipartisan commission.."
And now they're saying "[President] Bush has announced plans to form an independent inquiry ...[that] would serve [to] envelop the issue in a fog..."
I understand that POTUS is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't; that's why the March 2005 deadline doesn't bother me.
But I don't see the "Sybil" connection.
Please advise.
Yay! It's Opposite Day at moveon.org! And on Mind-Control Mondays they all get to wear tinfoil bowties to match their trademark deflector beanies.
Ara, MoveOn is condemning Bush for doing exactly what they insisted he do. You're right, GWB's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. But this time we have the same organization damning him both ways using a mirror-universe version of their own previous statement. It's like watching Gollum and Smeagol have a conversation.
Ara,
Bryan beat me to it. They wanted Congress to form a bipartisan commission. Bush is doing what they wanted Congress to do and now they are saying he's doing it to cover up.
Damned if he does and damned if he don't.
Damn.
True Rosemary, he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. I do remember when Movin On was formed and why... Ara and so do you and no you are not missing why this was posted.
The Sybil thing just shows the multiple personalities but I will let Rosemary comment on that.
Now, did anybody notice Angel or is it just me? He is sooo handsome. I will have to go get the DVD player tommorrow, got all hung up on all the different comments in a lot of blogs today, especially...Dean's World like all Dean's other regulars. Oh yeah, Kiss an Angel by Morning, up from San Antone!
Yes, MoveOn should pay attention to it's own name!
You guys crack me up!
P.S. There's at least a nominal difference between the Legislative and Executive branches of government in our Constitution.
I'm just saying.
Yeah, yeah Ara. I know.
I'm sure that makes all the difference.
O.K. there is at least a nominal difference between the Legislative and Executive branches of government in Our Constitution.
You know Ara, I have to give you credit for passing the eighth grade and learning all about Our Government. I have a darling little grand daughter that knows all about it too and she is in the seventh grade! I will be sure to tell her about you and what I learned today from-You.
Alright Ara, you can Move On and go to the ninth grade now.
You are just saying? Well I am just observing...
Gosh, I like funnin w/ya.
maybe it's an issue of inquiry vs comission :)
I've always hated that phrase "move on". I remember arguing with somebody about Mao's atrocities and he said we should "move on", forgive and forget, and trade with Communist China. Ironically, he himself was still mad at Senator Joe McCarthy. A typical contradiction in Leftist thinking.
"Move on" means we should forget the past. I'm against that! We must remember the past so we won't repeat it.
Actually, there are some cases that is appropriate. I would not hold it against either Clinton or Bush if it was shown that they had "inhaled" as a college student. The question is how they are currently behaving as president. Are they still?
The problem is that China has not stopped violating human rights. You can only forgive and forget when the entity to be forgiven has ceased doing what needed forgiveness and changed its ways, along with some reparation for the damage it did. China has not changed. It is not in the past. That bloody government is still with us, and its people still enslaved! True free trade can only occur between free countries.
But as a libertarian you would leave China alone, lead by example, and hope for revolution. The US should have no involvement with telling other countries how to run, correct? I'm a libertarian also, but some parts of the platform are so hard to swallow sometimes.
_I_ inhaled during the 1970s! No shame in that. I also opposed the impeachment of Clinton based on his private sexual relations, which are none of the government's business. And I will say once again, the only thing I _liked_ about William Bennett was his gambling, too bad he stopped. It's not people's private so-called "vices" that bother me, it's the ideas and public policies they advocate.
