I have all the artistic ability of a 5 year old. Good aesthetic sense, but no skill. Still, after writing the "Interesting Data, Incautious Assumptions" article (see below), I realized that I had been unconsciously inspired by The Flame Warriors when I started coming up with names for different types of political book readers. (And by the way, if you haven't seen The Flame Warriors, you should, they're a scream, and a few have been added since last I looked. Still no "Labeller," though.)
It also occurred to me that my description of the 8 types of political book-readers matches up pretty damned well to webloggers, and especially weblog readers and commenters (which all webloggers are anyway), and might make an interesting, similar project. I know I can identify every one of the 8 "political book reader" types among the regular commenters here on Dean's World, just based on what they say and how they say it.
So, I know a bunch of you guys out there are aspiring artists (and no, I haven't forgotten your submitted logos, see below). I was wondering, anyone want to try his hand at drawing some cartoons that match the descriptions I give below? Call it the "Blog Personality Types" or something? It might be fun. We could probably publish 'em on their own separate pages.
Just a thought.
You pathetic product of public schooling. Sister Helen would be moved to suicide. "inspiring artists"? Merciful Mother of God, surely you meant "aspiring artists"?
Forgive me. I'll go shoot myself now to put an end to our misery.
Heh. Typo fixed.
Yo, Bill, why don't you go shoot yourself to end Dean's misery?
Bill's an old and dear friend, I would be heartbroken if he were to do such a thing. :-)
Dean says "I know I can identify every one of the 8 "political book reader" types among the regular commenters here on Dean's World, just based on what they say and how they say it."
Now THATS a list I'd love to see :)
While I'm a pretty good cartoonist in 'real life' (gasp, life outside the computer!), I have little faith in my mouse wielding abilities. My kingdom for a scanner! I'll give it a shot, though. I noticed you changed the names of the types to more exciting, easier-to-draw things.
PS: Of course, the one I'm gonna try is "rage-addict".
Update: Here it is. I did it in paint, so...
Also, I didn't colour it because I'm colourblind. If you want it coloured I can make the 1+mb bmp available...
And, of course, i can always count on Dean to have a sense of humor. Even if, between you and I, he is a lamentable product of public schooling.
I'd love to see that list too! I'm diverse ha, ha. Now Dean that is a really, really good idea! I gotta say, that Allison is smart.
I can take a stab at it, though I can't guarantee results. What are the list of "types." Here's a sample from my blog:

Dowingba...that is Funny! I like it, I like it...keep it up kiddo!
Nevermind, see the list. That could take a bit, but could be fun.
I changed mine a bit. The same link should still work though.
Here are some quickie ideas for the first three...

Those are great Brian!
Thanks!
Here's another "Rage Addict", if you need one. Some of the rest are kinda hard to visualize... :)
