However, this is something I'm sure you've yet to realize, it's impossible for anyone to know everything about and era of history. Even the late, great Stephen Ambrose got his facts mixed from time to time. Lighten up.

I apologize for the tone. It was not intended to be sarcastic or snarky. I was just surprised by your question. I don't know how old you are, but the state of education generally is deplorable today, not your fault. What young people aren't getting in schools today, they need to go to the library for. That's why I said "Read your history." We all need to read our history. I know I get facts wrong or mixed up a great deal of the time.

Anyway, the little Brown Shirt scum who threatened Rosemary deserves whatever he gets unless it's lenient. I'm with you all the way, Dean and Rosemary.

Thanks for your apology. I too may have seen sarcasm where there was none. I do agree with you on the state of general education within this country. I'll be 25 on March 3rd of this year. Much I have learned in my life, history, politics and whatever else, I instilled in myself. To this day I look back at my public education and hold the opinion I held then: It's a joke.

Like Dean is well away of, the history of World War 2 is a passion of mine. I see in those men who fought during that time heroes I never had growing up. I never liked sports celebrities or actors, singers and all the artificial "role models" children are suppose to look up to. For the longest time I adored Albert Einstien. And when I got to middle school and high school my heroes and role models became the men of the past who stood for something. That's why when someone infers, intentionally or otherwise (or in my slanted perception), that I don't have a knowledge of history, I get a tad testy.

Again, I appreciate your apology... though it probably wasn't warranted.

I cannot begin to say how offended I am that someone would make such a threat - things like this are scarier than most people know, I having been on the receiving end of such threats in the past as well.

You two have run an excellent blog which I've enjoyed immensely and I hope nothing will dissuade you from continuing - but certainly, any restrictions you place upon posts will be understood by all and sundry.

Isn't it interesting that the people who behave like fascists and thought police are usually the first ones to accuse others of being fascists and Nazis? Just a thought.

That threat wasn't nearly as creative as the one that threatened to kidnap me, drive me to an abandoned warehouse, and rape me until my colon exploded.

Fortunately for Goeffrey, the upturn in the economy is generating a shortage of abandoned warehouses.

I doubt the trolls have the knowledge or creativity to come up with original threats. The abandoned warehouse bit sounds like it came from a comic book, and the Brown Shirt label is probably a hand-me-down meme.

Hopefully, they were as uncreative in hiding their trail as they were in creating a threat. I hope the cops get them quickly and the prosecutor is ambitious.

It is ironic that he called you a brownshirt while threatening to stab you. One of the leading characteristics of the brownshirts (early followers of Hitler prior to his capture of power) was their use of violence against political opponents.

I am sorry to hear some cowardly maniac has threatened your joy of blogging as well as your lives. I hope the police can find the person, and serve him a warning that threats have consequences.

I too am offended on your behalf and hope you have contacted the police. I wish I could say I was shocked, but I read a number of blogs where the comments are scary/over the top/FBI material on occasion. I never wonder at the bloggers (Reynolds, Sullivan, etc.) who elect not to have comments, but I also enjoy them greatly here and elsewhere. I have seen too many trolls and worse destroy an online community. This search for a happy medium between complete freedom and complete loss of liberty is something shared by blogs, media, broadcasting, the public square, and all civilized democratic life, I think.

I'm glad you've contacted the police, but I pity the fool who tries to mess with Rose.

Dean and Rosemary, I don't always agree with you, fact often I don't, but you are HONEST GOOD PEOPLE and I'm glad to know ya. In a manner of speaking.

This just stinks. I am SO SORRY and ANGRY at this. Why is it so many people in the blogosphere resort to flaming threats? why can't we have a fierce but positive discussion without wackos resorting to implicit violence? I hope you nail this unstable so-and-so.

Aargh. BTW, Tacitus just had the pleasure of finding out one of his blog-trolls from a ways back has gone to jail. We can all hope and pray that you have a similar joy, and soon.

Just read Kevin's post on PunditFilter about the threats made on your wife by some stinking coward, who is the one being the "Brown Shirt"; through their attempts at intimidating and silencing you as well as harassing via threats of bodily harm, etc.

My best wishes to your wife for her safety, health and healing as well as to you too of course. This is never easy for anyone to go through.

It may not be much by way of trying to show a little support to the good work you and your wife have been doing so well with your blogging, but for what it may be worth, I have just blogrolled Dean's World at the Question Dean Blog.

There have been a rash of these kinds of threats lately. Margaret Cho just received several buckets full. I received a death threat that I have already reported to New Scotland Yard (the guy lives in London). This guy has been targetting several liberal bloggers.

Please don't let the jerk who e-mailed you scare you out of blogging.
