Ed Koch's Endorsement (Rosemary)

Most of you know that Ed Koch, former NYC mayor, is planning on voting for Bush in November. Some of already know why. Those of you that don't can read this:

I intend to vote in 2004 to reelect President Bush. I will do so despite the fact that I do not agree with him on any major domestic issue, from tax policy to the recently enacted prescription drug law. These issues, however, pale in importance beside the menace of international terrorism, which threatens our very survival as a nation. President Bush has earned my vote because he has shown the resolve and courage necessary to wage the war against terrorism.

The Democratic presidential contenders, unfortunately, inspire no such confidence. With the exception of Senator Joseph Lieberman, who has no chance of winning, the Democrats have decided that in order to get their party's nomination, they must pander to its radical left wing. As a result, the Democratic candidates, even those who voted to authorize the war in Iraq, have attacked the Bush administration for its successful effort to remove a regime that was a sponsor of terrorism and a threat to world peace.

The Democrat now leading in the race, former governor Howard Dean, is a disgrace. His willingness to publicly entertain the slander that President Bush had advance warning of the September 11 attacks and his statement that America is no safer as a result of the capture of Saddam Hussein should have been sufficient to end his candidacy. But the radicals who dominate the primaries love the red meat that is thrown to them, even when it comes from a mad cow.

It's an interesting read. The New Republic's endorsement of Lieberman touches on the problems the Democrats are facing in a similar fashion.

Re: Koch. Yep. That about sums it up.

The Dems, my old party, really has fallen on hard times when it comes to national security and national sovereignty.

And like Koch I don't agree with half of Bush's domestic agenda, either.

Sure that wasnt written by Zell Miller? Sad that the party that seemed strong and centristic only 4 or so years ago is being hijacked by the radical left. The fact that individuals like Koch recognize this fact and have the courage and the convictions to stand up for it and call out the libelists and slanderers like Dean makes me think maybe they arent all bad.
But then I see Dean yell at a potential voter and tell him to shut up and sit down and I realize that some cannot be saved but for the grace of God. ;-)

Holy Toledo, Its almost a post I can agree with.
I always liked Mayor Ed Koch for his realistic opinions. Sounds to me like he is looking for the real 'democrat' party. Now, maybe if one or more of the democrat candidates took the gloves off and starting kicking some democrat butt, it could turn out that the democrat primary voters might actually have a choice that represents the
what the democrat party could and should be rather than what it has become.

Ed Koch stands as a man puting his country ahead of his party, as we all should. Why is this so unusual wasn't this the way it used to be? Isn't this the way of our constitution?

If any one here has ever served in the armed forces, public office, or been cleared by a security check; to what do you swear...to uphold the Constitution of the United States and to defend it against all, domestic or foreign.

We do not give our allegiance to a man, an office, a party, or any kind of person or organization. Our pledge is to our constitution. It's the basis of our nation and our freedom. Those who think their party is the most important thing in their political life are poorly educated in the true meaning of freedom and the true meaning of democracy in a representive form of government.

Too bad the Dems front runner (so far) is so NOT a CIC kind of guy. I just can't picture him leading the troops. I just can't picture him in a mess hall carrying a turkey on a tray surrounded by smiling GIs. Today in Iowa he told off some poor guy who asked him a question (which he didn't like) from the crowd. He was nothing more than pompous and a little silly resembling a caricature of Napoleon.

Mr Koch - "former Governor, Howard Dean is a disgrace" I'll drink to that!

But Jane it was a fake turkey.
Get it?

The turkey wasnt even real!

Yay - finally we've gotten into the Napoleon cracks on Dean's World! Good one, Jane.

Yes, I'm *much* more looking forward to Adam's cracks about Bush, which we have *never* heard before. /sarcasm
It's too bad that Lieberman hasn't had any support within the Dems, because he is one of the few candidates I would vote for in that party. I'm not terribly fond of his tax policy, but I can agree to disagree there.
