Clark Lied, People Died
Man, I am so disappointed in Wesley Clark for being such a liar.
Dean in '04!!!!
(Actually I'm being mean. Despite all his verbal gaffes and miscues, I've started to root for Clark. I remember the last major party candidate I saw who stuttered and stumbled and occasionally said dumb things. His nickname rhymed with "dumbya" or something. Still guys, wouldn't just a leetle bit more candor be healthy? Just a smidge?)
I'm not too terribly interested in what Clark usually says or does but I read this and was fuming.

Dean,
I know you were joking but as an Academy grad, it drives me crazy how the word "Liar" is thrown out for disagreements in interpretation or changed views. Gen. Clark, the loser, doesn't get high marks for integrity, but to claim that any Academy graduate has lied, cheated or stolen is a very serious charge... Maybe not in popular culture, but definitely to anyone from West Point, Annapolis or the AF Academy.

JFH:
Dean is making a point. I for one am sick and tired of the Bush Lied(TM) meme. Dean is fighting fire with fire.
Rosemary,
Of course I understand Dean was "fighting fire with fire". My point being is that the "Bush Lied" meme devalues the true concept of lying (in a similar fashion as the Bush=Hitler meme was finally "outed" with the Moveon.org ads). Unfortunately, true lying has been devalued such that it has become a post-modern construct rather than the black-white-grey issue it should be. Historical perspective:
Clinton lied about sex with an intern
Nixon lied about being a crook
Johnson MAY have lied about Tonkin Gulf
Sadam lied about WMD (whether he actually had them or not, he THOUGHT he had them)
Bush and Clinton did NOT lie about Iraq's WMDs because they believed that they did exist.

I don't see myself as fighting fire with fire so much as pointing to vile behavior by candidates and their supporters.
I keep trying to cut Clark a lot of slack, actually.
I recently read that Clark is not against any restriction on abortion, meaning up to the child's birth, the decision is still the mother's to make.
You'll forgive me if I fail to see how Clark could be perceived as a moderate. :-O
He already backed off on that.
Once again, appears to be a case of speaking poorly off the cuff, not thinking well on his feet when cameras are rolling.
People forgave Bush similar gaffes, ones we barely remember now. Such as when he told the single mom struggling to pay her bills, "well I wish I could wave a magic wand for you," [shrug]. Yeah, that came off well.
This from a President who actually has done quite a lot for single moms, by the way. It's easy to get caught farting or belching in front of a camera, especially when one's on you nearly 24/7.
