Yes, they are. I'm very grateful to have had a father like the one I had. I'll never cease praising him. A heroic and good man, a loving father. And, of course, my mother, too. A warm, loving woman.
On the other hand, I would never want somebody like me for a father. That's one of the reasons I'll never have any children.

True...true.
My dad died in Vietnam in 1970 when I was 12 years old. I have nothing but the best memories of him. He was 13 years into a Navy career with 7 children when he was died in a UNREP mishap. Ironically, he was a Hospital Corpsman, (like I was) and had no real reason to be topside when bad luck struck; he was just looking after his sailors. Wrong place, wrong time. I miss him so much.

"when he was killed" not when he was died. It was hard to say those words a minute ago.
Sorry

Amen. Fathers are vital, and downplaying that fact is one of the stupidest mistakes our society has ever made. My father was a caring, intelligent man who was devoted to his family and sacrificed more than I ever knew or acknolwledged. It's been almost ten years since a rainy Sunday when he and my grandmother were killed in a car accident, but not a day goes by when I don't wish he were here.
